Girls Softball Roundup, Apr. 17: Scott City rolls with win over Portageville Friday, 13-3

Sophomore Olivia Ponder was perfect at the plate, going 4 for 4 in the game, missing a triple to hit for the cycle, as Ponder drove in three RBIs, to lead Scott City to a dominating 13-3 win Friday.

Ponder homered in the first inning, singled in the second, doubled in the third inning, and singled again in her last at-bat in the sixth inning.

The Rams plated three runs in the home half of the first inning, coming back strong in the following inning as the Scott City offense remained hot, scoring four more runs in the second and four more in the third. The Rams tacked on two more in the bottom of the sixth to push the lead to a 10 run advantage, ending the contest.

Portageville did score three runs to keep the game going in the third inning, making it a nine run Scott City advantage.

Starting pitcher Logan Schwitz earned the victory on the mound, throwing all six innings, allowing three runs on four hits, striking out four while walking two.

The Scott City offense was en fuego, notching 14 hits in the game, lead by Ponder's four hits.

Mackenzie Lawless recorded three hits in the contest, as well as two hits from Alyssa Dirden, and a quintuplet of players with a hit each.

Scott City (7-5) will try and keep the momentum going Tuesday as they host East Prairie at 4:30 p.m.

Advance 14, Dexter 0

Annie Duffield scattered six hits over five innings went 3 for 3 at the plate, leading the Advance Hornets to a 14-0 victory over Dexter on Friday at Westfield Park in Advance.

Duffield struck out two and walked two for the Hornets, who improved to 11-4 overall and 5-0 in the SCAA. The game ended in the fifth inning because of the 10-run mercy rule.

Amelia Jenkins was charged with the loss, giving up 14 runs — 12 earned — on 14 hits with four strikeouts and two walks in four innings for the Bearcats, who fell to 4-7 and 2-2.

Advance’s Mikayla Mikels went 2 for 3 with a double and four RBIs. Kaylee Cline went 2 for 3 with a triple, two runs scored and three RBIs. Alandry Below went 2 for 3 with a double, two runs scored and one RBI.

Mandi Thompson went 1 for 3 with a double, Natalee Roper went 1 for 3 with a triple and an RBI and Lily McLeary went 1 for 3 with two RBIs.

Bailey Colyer went 2 for 2 to lead the Bearcats.

Bernie 16, NMCC 8

The Bernie Mules scored nine unanswered runs to beat New Madrid County Central 16-8 on Friday in a softball game at New Madrid.

The Eagles soared to a 6-1 lead after two innings and held an 8-7 advantage through four innings. However, Bernie scored four runs in the sixth and five in the seventh to secure the come-from-behind victory.

Elicia Freeman was the winning pitcher, giving up eight runs on seven hits with two strikeouts, two walks and four hit-batsmen in seven innings.

Carly Kimball was charged with the loss, permitting 16 runs on 16 hits with four strikeouts, six walks and one hit-batsman in seven innings.

Bernie’s Courtney Walker went 3 for 4 with a double and one run scored. Sara Guzman went 3 for 4 with three runs scored. Piper Schoemehl went 2 for 3 with three runs scored. Anna Eaton went 2 for 4 with a home run and two runs scored. Mackenzie Powell went 2 for 4 with one run scored. Abby Powell went 2 for 5 with a triple and two runs scored, and Logan Mayberry went 1 for 3 with three runs scored.

NMCC’s Ellie Cravens went 2 for 4 with a double and two runs scored. Riley Polk went 2 for 4. Katherine Taylor went 1 for 4 with a double, and Jimmya Caldwell Newson went 1 for 2 with two runs scored.
