Baseball Roundup, Apr. 13: Undefeated Cooter beats Senath-Hornersville 9-1

The undefeated Cooter Wildcats improved to 9-0 as it won at Senath-Hornersville 9-1 Tuesday.

Cooter, which is ranked No. 3 in the latest Class 1 state poll, scored four runs in the top of the first inning, one run in the third inning, three runs in the fifth inning, and one run in the seventh frame for its 9-run total.

Senath-Hornersville tallied its only run when Mike Weldon drove home a run in the bottom of the sixth inning.

Luke Barnes finished 4 for 5 with athree RBIs for Cooter. Carson Swan was 2 for 3 with three RBIs and Talon King had a hit and two RBIs.

Hayden Nazarenus pitched 4 2/3 scoreless innings for Cooter. He struck out six and walked one while surrendering two hits.

Andy Carrillo pitched the rest of the way for Cooter. He allowed one earned run, three hits, struck out four, and walked two.

Holden Coronado pitched the first 2 2/3innings, Parker Ezell pitched the next 3 1/3 innings and Weldon got the final three outs for Senath-Hornersville.

Senath-Hornersville (2-4) takes on Bernie at 3 p.m. and Portageville at 5 p.m. Friday at the Malden Invitational.

Cooter hosts Caruthersville Thursday at 4:30 p.m.

Neelyville 6, South Pemiscot

The Neelyville baseball squad jumped out to a 6-0 lead and hung on to win at state-ranked South Pemiscot 6-3 Tuesday.

South Pemiscot, which is ranked No. 10 in the latest Class 2 state poll, scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the seventh inning. Matt Moore had both of South Pemiscot’s RBIs.

Individual statistics were not available for Neelyville.

South Pemiscot (5-3) hosts Risco Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Neelyville (4-8) will take on Doniphan at 3 p.m. and Malden at 5 p.m. Friday at the Malden Invitational.

Advance 15, Bloomfield 0

Jed Garner pitched a two-hit shutout Tuesday, leading the Advance Hornets to a 2-0 victory over Bloomfield in an SCAA baseball game at Bloomfield.

Garner struck out eight and walked three in five innings for Advance who improved to 10-3 overall and 4-0 in league play.

Christian Hartlein was charged with the loss, yielding seven runs — five earned — on four hits with two strikeouts and three walks in two innings.

Advance’s Gus Garner went 3 for 4 with a double and two RBIs. Landon Dailey went 2 for 2 with a double, three runs scored and one RBI. Hayden Laird went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. Tyler Davis went 2 for 4 with a double and two RBIs, and Jed Garner went 1 for 3 with a triple.

Will Robison and Evan Shackles had one hit each for Bloomfield (4-5, 2-3). Robison’s hit was a double.

Bell City 8, Oak Ridge 1

JT Robey went 3 for 4 with a double and an RBI, and Wyatt Griffin struck out 13 in seven innings, leading the Bell City baseball team to an 8-1 win the Blue Jays on Tuesday at Oak Ridge.

Griffin allowed one run on seven hits with three walks to record the victory for Bell City, who improved to 7-4.

Garrett Seabaugh was issued the loss, yielding seven runs on 10 hits with five strikeouts and five walks in 4 2/3 innings.

Bell City’s Logan Stubenrauch went 2 for 4 with three RBIs, Nate Stone went 2 for 2, Austin Hunt went 1 for 3 with three runs scored, and Jack Duenne went 1 for 5 with two RBIs.

Tyler Bishop went 2 for 3 with a double and one RBI to lead Oak Ridge (0-8), and Wyatt Berry went 2 or 4.

Saxony Lutheran 4, East Carter 3

Saxony Lutheran had their toughest opponent to date Tuesday, as East Carter gave the Crusaders all they wanted and more, before falling to Saxony Lutheran, 4-3.

Head Coach Paul Sander had senior Tanner King on the mound to start the game, and King pitched all seven innings to get the win, striking out nine Redbird batters, and issuing two walks.

King allowed the three runs in the top of the first three innings, as East Carter scored a single run in each of those innings, to take a 3-0 lead going into the bottom of the third.

The home half of the third saw Eli Brown lead off the inning with a walk, followed by another walk by Jacob Johnson.

The next batter, Colin Tarry, singled, scoring both base runners.

Leadoff hitter Hunter Hamilton, King, and Will Ledure each drew walks, as Tarry came in to score.

King shut out East Carter the rest of the way, collecting the win.

Redbird starter Jacob Saffle collected the loss, giving up all four runs, striking out seven, and walking five.

Saxony Lutheran (10-0) will travel to Bell City on Thursday, with first pitch at 4:30 p.m.

East Carter (8-3) will take on Dexter on the road Thursday, with game time at 4 p.m.

Oran 8, Malden 6

The Oran Eagles held on to beat a tough Malden baseball team Tuesday, to win their ninth game of the season, by a score of 8-6.

Oran led 7-2 going into the top of the sixth inning, but after the Green Wave scored two runs in the top half of the inning and two more runs in the seventh, Eagle's reliever Connor Kern was able to record the last three outs, but not before giving up two earned runs in the inning.

Oran starter Kolten Payne went 3 2/3 innings, striking out five, walking none, and allowing seven hits and two runs.

Kaden Hargrove relieved Payne and pitched 2 1/3, striking out five while allowing two runs on four hits.

Ty Johnson led the Eagles offensively, recording three hits in four plate appearances, driving in a run as well as scoring two runs.

Dawson Menz drove in two runs to lead the team.

Oran was out-hit 15-7 but took advantage of three errors committed by Malden.

Oran (9-1) will head to Advance with a showdown with the Hornets (10-3) on Thursday.

First pitch is at 4:30 p.m.

Chaffee 8, Delta 5

Chaffee freshman Levi McKinnie went 3 for 4 at the plate, including a bases-loaded double that scored two RBIs, leading the Red Devils past Delta Tuesday, 8-5.

McKinnie finished with four RBIs, a game-high.

Isiah Fitzgerald started on the mound for Chaffee, throwing three innings, giving up four runs on just two hits, striking out four while walking three.

Brennan Fowler came in to pitch four innings of relief, striking out seven and walking four, allowing just one run on three hits.

Delta (1-4) starter Carter Scherer was struck for eight runs (six earned) on six hits, striking out seven and walking five.

Lanson Cox led the Bobcats in hitting, recording three hits, scoring a run.

Levi Jansen drove in two runs, going 1 for 4 for the day.

Chaffee (9-1) plays at Dexter today at 4:30 p.m. while Delta will host Charleston Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
