Baseball Roundup, Apr. 12: Cooter baseball squad remains perfect
Undefeated Cooter outlasted Richland 14-13 Saturday.
The game was tied at 1-all after two innings before Cooter moved ahead 6-2 after three innings, continued to lead 7-4 after four innings, led 7-6 after five innings, and enjoyed a 14-8 lead after six innings, before Richland scored the final five runs in the seven inning.
Hayden Nazarenus finished 3 for 3 at the plate with a home run and a team-high six RBIs for Cooter. Chris Crowder added a triple and two RBIs, Talon King collected a double and one RBI, and Gabriel McLevain also tallied one RBI.
King pitched the first six innings for Cooter. He allowed 11 runs (two earned), nine hits, struck out zero, and walked four.
Nazarenus got the final three outs for Cooter. He allowed two earned runs, one hit, and walked one.
Cooter (8-0) visits Senath-Hornersville Tuesday.
Cooter 12, Winona 2
Cooter scored in every inning it batted as it run-ruled Winona 12-2 in five innings Saturday.
Hayden Nazarenes finished 3 for 3 with a home run, two triples and two RBIs.
Chris Crowder was 2 for 2 with one RBI and a triple.
Gabriel McLevain drove home two runs, Pearce Watkins drove home two runs, and Luke Barnes had one RBI for Cooter.
Roads Lynn pitched 4 1/3 innings for Cooter. he allowed two earned runs, three hits, struck out two and walked one. Nazarenus retired both Winona hitters he faced.
Kennett 5, Trinity Christian Academy (Tenn.) 1
The Kennett baseball squad built a 5-0 lead by the end of the third inning and hung on to beat Trinity Christian Academy, Tennessee, 5-1 Friday.
Trey Gardner recorded the only RBI for Kennett.
Brooks Nigut had two of Kennett’s five hits.
Kobe Gates allowed one earned run, there hits, struck out six, and walked one in four innings pitched.
Kennett (8-3) hosts Sikeston Wednesday at 4 p.m.
