CAPE GIRARDEAU — Alex Wiseman lost his ball on the second hole Monday but was able to escape with a bogey.

“That really got me some momentum,” said Poplar Bluff junior, who ended up with three lost balls, five birdies and individual medalist honors at the Notre Dame Invitational.

Wiseman shot a 1-over-par 73 at Dalhousie Golf Club on a windy day.

The Mules claimed the team title with a seven-shot win over Jackson as freshman Lawson Barks shot 82 to tie for fourth while junior Paul Innes carded an 84 to tie for 10th. Jack Pierce and Ian Martinez each shot 88 to give Poplar Bluff a 327.

“It was tough,” Mules coach Billy Poland said of the conditions. “They played pretty smart when they got in trouble.”

Following his bogey save, Wiseman had birdies on four of his next five holes. On the par-4, 310-yard sixth, his drive landed on the green and he two-putted for birdie. He sank a 12-foot birdie putt on the next hole, a par-5, and said he had only 12 putts on front 9.

The back 9 was a different story.

“Most of it was damage control,” Wiseman said.

Farmington’s Jonah Burgess finished second at 75 while Jackson’s Carsen Sillman followed at 79. The rest of the field shot 82 or worse and only 20 players broke 90.

Poplar Bluff’s Gatlin Taylor, who played as an individual, shot 91.

Barks played his final four holes 2-under starting with a birdie on the par-5 18th when he chipped to within 2 feet. His second birdie was on another par-5 hole before closing out with a par.

Innes had a tap-in birdie on the par-4 fourth when his wedge shot landed to within 3 feet and got up-and-down for birdie on 18.

Martinez made a 10-foot putt for birdie on No. 6 while Pierce had four birdies, including a 50-foot putt on the par-4 12th, and a pair of chip-ins on 13 and 16, he said.

“Really proud of the way they grinded out there,” Pyland said.

The Mules (327) were followed by Jackson (334), Farmington (337), Nixa (341) and Dexter (352).
