Boys Basketball Roundup, Jan. 6: St. Vincent wins easily at Bismarck, improves to 8-2 on season

The St. Vincent Indians outscored Bismarck 46-20 in the first half and did not have much resistance in the second half of action as well, blowing out the home team Indians 74-35 Tuesday evening.

St. Vincent led 26-11 at the end of the opening quarter and led by 26, as mentioned above, at the break.

10 players for St. Vincent got in the score books, as the Indians were paced by John Wibbenmeyer, who scored a game high 22 points.

Brian Besand and Shawn Koishor were also in double figures as Besand tallied 11 and Koishor added 10.

St. Vincent is knocking on the door of being ranked in the Top 10 of the Class 2 state basketball rankings, as last week they were an honorable mention, having only lost twice this season so far.

Bismarck(1-3) were led by Ethan Dugal, who totaled 13 points including 3, three point makes.

St. Vincent(8-2) will head to Crystal City Friday to take on the 1-6 Hornets at 7 p.m.

Leopold 59, Gideon 42

Leopold junior Mason Deck led all scorers with 22 points as the Wildcats pulled out a 59-42 home victory Tuesday night.

Leopold led 13-7 after one quarter of play and added to that lead by halftime, leading 28-18.

The second half proved much of the same, as the Bulldogs couldn't cut into the Wildcats lead.

Three other Wildcats were in double figures with Deck, as Cameron Abernathy added 11 points, Caleb Schaab had 10 points as well as Connor Lincoln adding 10.

Schaab was plagued with foul trouble for most of the second and third quarters and fouled out.

Gideon(4-6) did have two players in double figures with Dalton Manning scoring 12 points and Zach Swift adding 10 points.

Leopold(4-6) will look to further improve their season record Friday as they host Greenville(4-5) at 7:30 p.m.

The Bernie boys basketball team held Neelyville to four second-quarter points Tuesday night and held on for a 47-38 victory at Bernie High School.

The Mules (9-2) led 8-7 after one quarter but extended that advantage to 19-11 at halftime. Bernie carried a 30-21 lead into the final quarter.

Johnny Vaughn scored a game-high 19 points for the Mules, and Tyler Suiter added 11.

Ryley Cage Armes paced Neelyville (3-7) with 18 points.

The Woodland Cardinals showcased their depth en route to an 84-57 victory over Richland in an SCAA boys basketball game Tuesday night at Essex.

Four Woodland players scored in double figures, and seven scored six or more points.

Lane Vangennip scored a game-high 24 points for Woodland (8-3, 1-1 SCAA).

Tanner Freeman paced Richland (3-7, 1-2) with 22 points, and Matt Finch and Damon Ivy had 11 apiece.

Woodland held quarter leadoff 20-11, 46-31 and 68-41.

The Hayti Indians outlasted the Senath-Hornersville Lions 58-57 in overtime Tuesday.

Senath-Hornersville led 12-6 after one quarter before Hayti won the second quarter by one point, third quarter by one point, fourth quarter by one point, and the overtime session by one point to escape with a road win.

Trayvon Thomas put up 18 of his game-high 24 points after halftime to pace Hayti with 24 points.

Quindale Malone and Tyler Moore also scored in double digits for Hayti with 15 and 12 points respectively.

Parker Rhew scored 16 points after halftime on his way to a team-high 19 points for Senath-Hornersville.

Knolan Hunter also scored in double digits for the Lions with 17 points.

Senath-Hornersville (6-4) hosts Neelyville Thursday.

Hayti returns to action Friday when it hosts unbeaten New Madrid County Central.

Nate Ware scored a game-high 34 points, including seven 3-pointers, and the Zalma Bulldogs took an early lead en route to a 70-60 victory over Bell City on Tuesday night at Zalma.

Ware scored 15 of his points in the first quarter where the Bulldogs (5-3) took a 17-9 lead. They led 37-30 at halftime and 51-41 after three quarters.

Nate Stone paced Bell City (0-9) with 21 points and Bryson Maddox had 17.
