Bernie, Sikeston athletes earn weekly Semoball.com honor

High school athletes throughout the state are trying to hit their stride with the MSHSAA postseason nearing and that was exhibited by both Anna Eaton and Dylan Thornbrough last week.

Eaton, a Bernie volleyball player, and Thornbrough, a Sikeston soccer player, both showed their ability in recent contests and for their efforts, Semoball.com readers voted these two as the most recent honorees as the Semoball.com Athletes of the Week.

Eaton received 459 of the total 1,334 votes, with over 700 readers participating, while Thornburgh garnered 199 votes.

Eaton helped the Mules by producing 10 kills and one block, including three kills during a 5-2 match-clinching run in a three-game sweep of Malden.

Thornbrough scored a goal, while also assisting on another in a game against Poplar Bluff.

Other female nominees included: Kendyl Stuckey (Kelly softball), Anelle Harris (Kennett tennis), the Advance and Gideon volleyball teams.

The male nominees included: Thornbrough, Christian Hartlein (Bloomfield baseball), Skylar Morrison (Campbell baseball), Lane VanGennip (Woodland baseball), and Elijah McAtee (Poplar Bluff swimming).
