“I’m a little bit disappointed in some of the mental errors we had on substitutions and by a couple of offside penalties our defensive line made,” Kennett football coach Joel Wyatt said. “But overall I’m pleased with our effort. I thought we did a good job offensively and made some big plays. Our defense also did what we expected them to do tonight. But credit Doniphan because they kept playing even after falling behind early.”

The Indians scored a touchdown on every first-half possession it had the ball with the exception of the final possession of the second quarter when time ran out.

Jordan Jarrett recorded five of the Indians’ six touchdowns in the first half. He had touchdown runs of 4, 8, and 9 yards and caught touchdown passes from quarterback Bodey Ellis of 10 and 15 yards.

“Jordan and Bodey are two great offensive weapons,” Wyatt said. “Bodey is definitely a dual-threat guy at quarterback and Jordan is a special talent. We expect those guys to make big plays.”

Daniel Boatman added an 11-yard rushing touchdown to account for the Indians’ other first-half score.

Doniphan was limited to just one first down in the first half when Trey Mills threw a 15-yard pass to Nolan Czerwonka with 11:00 left in the second quarter. Doniphan punted three times, had a punt blocked, had a pass intercepted by Camden Pritchett, and turned the ball over on downs once in the first half.

“Our goal was to not allow a first down,” Wyatt said of the defensive strategy. “I thought we did a good job of getting defensive penetration so we could get everyone flying to the football.”

Kennett continued to enjoy success on its opening possession of the second half when Jarrett ran 34 yards for his sixth touchdown of the game with 7:54 left in the third quarter.

Doniphan recorded a pair of first downs on its opening offensive possession of the second half before eventually turning the ball over on downs at the Kennett 42.

Boatman followed with his second rushing touchdown of the game when he ran the ball one yard into the endzone with 8:25 left in the regulation. A successful two-point conversion followed as the Indians padded its lead to 53-0.

Doniphan enjoyed a big run of its own with 3:20 left in the fourth quarter when Carson Leroux broke loose for a 55-yard touchdown run to set the final score.

Doniphan (0-2) hosts Caruthersville while Kennett hosts Ste. Genevieve next Friday.
