First night of the 68th Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo features seven events

SIKESTON — Night one of the 68th Annual Sikeston Jaycee Bootheel Rodeo featured seven events on Wednesday night.

In bareback riding, Clayton Biglow edged Kaycee Feild and Tilden Hooper by one and a half points with a ride of 89.5. Feild and Hooper each finished with rides of 88.

Trenten Montero finished in fourth place with a ride of 85, while Chad Rutherford’s 82.5 ride gave him a fifth-place standing.

Tied for sixth place, Anthony Thomas and Tanner Phipps finished with rides of 81, while Waylon Bourgeois’ 80-point ride was good for eighth.

Jake Watson took first-place honors in the saddle bronc riding event, after a ride of 87.5. The next closest to Watson was Jacob Kammerer, who finished with 83.5 points, which edged out Curtis Garton by half of a point, 83.5 to 83.

Dalton Kingery and Carter Elshere finished in a tie for fourth with rides of 82, while Jake Foster’s 80.5 points were good for sixth.

Rounding out the event were Kirk Nelson and Brat Bates, who finished seventh and eighth, respectively. Nelson had a 78.5 ride, while Bates had a 76.

Five individuals scored in the steer wrestling event, with Cade Goodman’s 5.4 good for top honors. Nick Guy finished second at 6.1, while Termaine Debose had a score of seven.

In fourth place, Denard Butler had a score of nine, while Chase Crane’s 10.6 score was good for fifth.

John Douch’s 8.6 score was good for first place in the tie-down roping. He beat out Kincade Henry, who finished with a score of 9.5.

Shad Mayfield finished in third with a score of 11, while Jonathan Isaacs' score of 14.2 was good for fifth.

In sixth place, Zack Jongbloed had a score of 17.9, while Bob Loosenort rounded out the scoring, with a 20.9 mark.

Only one team finished in the team roping event, as most of the competitors struggled to get a successful tie-up. Andrew Ward and Buddy Hawkins II were the only individuals to secure points, with five.

Jessica Routier came away with first-place honors in the barrel racing event, after a ride of 16.23. She beat out Kassie Mowry by two-tenths of a point, at 16.25 for the top spot.

Coming in third place, Jessie Telford finished with a ride of 16.30, while Lois Ferguson was fourth after scoring a 16.36.

In fifth place, Emily Taylor finished with a ride of 16.38, while Victoria Williams and Lisa Lockhart tied for sixth, with a score of 16.43.

Tying for eighth was Shelley Morgan and Michelle Darling, at 16.45, while Sabra O’Quinn finished with a score of 16.47 for solo-10th.

A pair of individuals finished in a tie for 11th, as Emily Miller and Halyn Lide each had scores of 16.48. Finishing in 13th was Paige Jones, with a score of 16.51, while Lindsey Nixon’s 16.54 score was good for 14th and Margo Crowther’s 16.64 was good for 15th.

The final event of the night was bull riding, with Ty Wallace taking top honors after a ride of 87. Braden Richardson finished in second with a score of 85.5, while Maverick Potter had an 82 1/5 score to finish in third and Colten Beaty’s score of 82 was good for fourth.
