Kennett, Twin Rivers Reach LRC Fifth-Place Consolation Finals
Through the first two days the average margin of victory at the Lady Royals Christmas Classic was somewhere close to 30 points. That changed quickly Friday in the semifinals of the fifth-place bracket.
The Twin Rivers Royals and Kennett Indians both survived down-to-the-buzzer finished to earn another game in the 16-team tournament field.
Dexter's Sydney Asberry missed on a long 3-point attempt with three seconds left as Twin Rivers prevailed over the Bearcats 58-55. The game was a shootout between Asberry, who finished with 29 points, and the Royals' Abbey Hester who seared the nets for 28 points.
Twin Rivers led 57-48 with less than two minutes to play but Asberry's 3 sparked a late run by the Bearcats.
Jaylynn Williams added 11 points for the Royals. Alexa Werneck had 10 for the Bearcats.
Kennett scored its final five points from the free throw line in the final two minutes after Charleston's Ashanta Jones put her team ahead 35-34 with a three-pointer. The game was tied 10-10 after one quarter and 21-21 at the half. Neither team led by more than three points in the second half.
Anelle Harris led Kennett with 10 points. Taleigh Harrell and Caroline Patton finished with nine points a piece. Jones led Charleston with 18 and Mistavia Murray added 12.
