Bogan helps Cape Central to rout in consolation play at Holiday Classic

The shortest player on the floor for Cape Girardeau Central, and one of the youngest, stood tall Thursday in consolation basketball at the First State Community Bank Holiday Classic, as Central (4-2) defeated St. Paul Lutheran Farmington, 61-28, on Thursday.

Rakiara Bogan, a 5-foot-2 freshman, came off the bench to lead all scorers with 14 points and had seven of the Tigers' 13 steals.Ella Vogel added 13 points for the Tigers, who improved to 4-2 in advancing to Saturday's fifth-place game against Woodland.

St. Paul, led by eight points from Paige Ames, fell to 3-5.

Woodland 58, Meadow Heights 28

Destinee Cowell scored a team-high 11 points to help Woodland reach the firth-place game of the Holiday Classic.

The overmatched Panthers had only two subs but trailed just 23-16 at halrtime. The depth became an issue in the second half, forcing sophomore Ashley Gruenke to play every second she fouled out with 3:30 left in the fourth quarter with a game-high 13 points. Woodland outscored the Panthers 22-5 in the third quarter and 35-12 in the second half.
