MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Notre Dame boys basketball sustains 61-58 loss to NMCC

New Madrid County Central's Ansel Underwood inflicted enough damage before fouling out, scoring nine of his 19 points in the fourth quarter, in a 61-58 victory over Notre Dame on Tuesday at Notre Dame Regional High School.

Underwood hit a pair of 3-pointers and all three of his free-throw attempts in providing half of his team's points in the final quarter as the Eagles outscored the Bulldogs 18-14 to overcome a one-point deficit.

Christian Phillips scored 20 points to lead New Madrid.

Caleb Le Grand and Tyler Landewee each scored 13 points for Notre Dame. Justice Thoma added 12 points and Drew Heisserer finished with 11.

The game was tight throughout, with the score tied 31-31 at halftime, and the Bulldogs nudging ahead 44-43 entering the fourth quarter.

Notre Dame fell to 5-2 with the loss.

Wyatt Parker led Chaffee with 15 points, hitting three 3-pointers, while Alec Brown connected on four treys and finished with 13 points.

St. Vincent (5-0) built a 14-point lead by the end of the first quarter and led 39-18 at halftime.
