LAST TRIP TO FINAL FOUR: 2018

HISTORY: Won state championship in 2018, and placed second in 1979 and third in 1983.

KEY PLAYERS: Senior Roz Schrader (306 kills, 4 kills per set, .460 hitting percentage, 83 total blocks, 34 aces, 116 digs). Junior Alyssa Miles (243 kills, 3.2 kills per set, .453 hitting percentage, 25 total blocks, 27 aces, 172 digs). Junior Nyah Wilson (175 kills, 2.3 kills per set, .374 hitting percentage, 53 total blocks, 27 aces, 162 digs). Junior Meadow Morse (131 kills, 1.7 kills per set, 59 aces, 205 digs). ROAD TO THE FINAL FOUR: The Hornets defeated Leopold 25-11, 25-20 to win the District 3 title. They beat Bloomfield 25-12, 25-2 and Holcomb 25-10, 25-4 to reach the state semifinals.

TOURNAMENTS: The Hornets won the Perryville and SCAA tournaments and placed second in the Jackson tournament, which featured multiple Class 4 teams. Class 4 Lindbergh beat the Hornets 25-21, 18-25, 25-21 in the title match.

BY THE NUMBERS: Advance went 17-2 against larger schools, including 4-2 against Class 4 schools and 6-0 against Class 3 teams. Six of the Hornets’ opponents won district championships and two of them (Perryville and Valle Catholic) reached the state quarterfinals. Class 4 Jackson handed the Hornets their only other loss in a best-of-five set match, 30-28, 17-25, 25-18, 25-17 earlier in the season.

STREAKS: Advance won 15 straight matches at one point and brings a 13-match win streak into the final four.

SANTA FE CHIEFS

COACH: Ashton Sander

RECORD: 34-1-4.

LAST TRIP TO FINAL FOUR: 2015

HISTORY: Won seven state championships, including six straight from 1982-87. Won most recent state title in 2015.

KEY PLAYERS: Sophomore Isabella Limback (378 kills, 4.8 kills per set, .319 hitting percentage, 43 aces, 278 digs). Senior Carrigan Smith (327 kills, 4.2 kills per set, .241 hitting percentage, 80 aces, 251 digs). Junior Kara Hollingsworth (432 assists, 38 aces, 150 digs). Senior Madalyn Schuette (37 aces, 342 digs). Junior Lexi Lark (33 total blocks). Freshman Cassie Aversman (281 assists, 114 digs).

ROAD TO THE FINAL FOUR: Santa Fe defeated Concordia 25-21, 25-21 to win the District 13 title before beating Rock Port 25-16, 25-8 and Crest Ridge 20-25, 25-22, 25-14 in the first two rounds of the state tournament.

TOURNAMENTS: The Chiefs won the I-70 Conference and Warrensburg tournaments.

BY THE NUMBERS: Santa Fe went 13-1-2 against larger schools, including 9-0 against Class 3 teams and 1-1-1 against Class 4 schools. Smith-Cotton handed the Chiefs their only loss (22-25, 25-18, 25-18). Six of Santa Fe’s opponents won district championships. St. Paul Lutheran, who they beat twice, made the Class 2 final four, and Pleasant Hill (Class 3) and Sacred Heart (Class 1) reached the state quarterfinals. Santa Fe went 8-0 against district champions.

STREAKS: The Chiefs won their first eight games of the season and carry a nine-game win streak into the final four.

CALVARY LUTHERAN LIONS

COACH: Kandace Cook

RECORD: 23-6-3

LAST TRIP TO FINAL FOUR: 2018

HISTORY: Finished second at state in 2018 in school’s only appearance in the final four.

KEY PLAYERS: Senior Sarah Johnson (227 kills, 3.4 kills per set, .279 hitting percentage, 27 total blocks, 68 aces, 288 digs). Senior Jaelyn Englebrecht (141 kills, 2.1 kills per set, .251 hitting percentage, 78 total blocks, 37 aces, 269 digs). Senior Abigayle Lagore (123 kills, 1.8 kills per set, .270 hitting percentage, 46 total blocks, 215 digs). Sophomore Julia Komlmeyer (327 assists, 34 aces, 105 digs). Senior Jordyn Mays (108 assists).

ROAD TO THE FINAL FOUR: The Lions beat Eugene 25-18, 25-16 to win the District 12 championship and followed with wins over Greenfield (25-22, 25-19) and Sacred Heart (19-25, 25-23, 25-14) to reach the final four.

TOURNAMENTS: Calvary Lutheran competed in the Dig 4 Life Challenge in Cape Girardeau, compiling a 2-1-2 record.

BY THE NUMBERS: The Lions went 10-3-1 against larger schools, including 4-1 against Class 3 schools and 2-0 against Class 4 teams.

They faced only one district champion during the regular season, losing 25-19, 25-17 to Class 2 state semifinalist Hermann.

STREAKS: Calvary Lutheran opened and closed the year with season-long six-game winning streaks.

BILLINGS WILDCATS

COACH: Brandi Sillavan

RECORD: 22-5-2

LAST TRIP TO FINAL FOUR: 2018

HISTORY: Placed fourth in state in 2018, making its first trip to the final four.

KEY PLAYERS: Senior Morgan Heimer (278 kills, 4.5 kills per set, .297 hitting percentage, 48 total blocks, 54 aces, 278 digs). Senior Bailey Groves (191 kills, 4.5 kills per set, .307 hitting percentage, 24 total blocks, 247 digs). Senior Bailie Williams (502 assists, 48 aces). Senior Lauren Herd (337 digs).

ROAD TO THE FINAL FOUR: The Wildcats defeated Blue Eye 20-25, 25-13, 28-26 to win the District 7 championship. They beat Summersville 20-25, 25-16, 25-11, and Lesterville 19-25, 28-26, 25-19 in the first two rounds of the state tournament,

TOURNAMENTS: The Wildcats went 1-1-2 in the Buffalo, Missouri, tournament and 1-2 in the Sparta Invitational.

BY THE NUMBERS: Billings went 8-4-2 against larger schools, including 0-1-2 against Class 3 teams. The only Class 1 team to beat the Wildcats was Miller, who won the District 8 title.

STREAKS: The Wildcats posted a season-long 11 match win streak midseason and have won six straight entering the final four.
