Southeast women's volleyball stays atop OVC with five-set win

Southeast Missouri State will attempt to hold on to sole possession of first place in the Ohio Valley Conference as it hosts second-place Jacksonville State on Saturday at Houck Field House.

The Redhawks, led by ninth-year coach Julie Yankus, rallied to win the final two sets against Tennessee Martin on the road Tuesday to claim the match in five sets, 22-25, 25-21, 22-25, 25-12, 15-13.

With the win, Southeast (17-8, 9-2 OVC) extended its win streak to five matches.

It is the most victories for a Redhawks squad since 2013.

Against the Skyhawks (9-17, 5-6), Redhawks senior right side hitter Annie Wehrheim and junior outside hitter Laney Malloy each had 13 kills.

Sophomore setter Claire Ochs recorded 39 assists and a career-best 25 digs.

Jacksonville State (14-8, 8-2 OVC) is currently tied with Morehead State (17-6, 8-2) for second in the OVC with an 8-2 record.

The last time Southeast last won the OVC regular season title came in 2007.
