MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Jackson golfers win district title

Jackson sophomore Kaydi Rhodes shot a 1-under-par 71 on Wednesday at The Links at Dardenne in O'Fallon, Missouri, to lead the school's girls golf program to its first district title.

Rhodes finished four strokes ahead of Lindbergh's Sofia Gamayo to earn the medalist at the Class 2 District 1 tournament.

Jackson, which is in its third season of fielding a girls golf team, finished with a 321 total to finish 40 straokes ahead of Nerinx Hall in the nine-team field. Both teams qualified for the Class 2 sectional tournament Monday at Crescent Farms in Eureka, Missouri.

"We had to do some scrambling for pars, but overall we had a great mental game," Jackson coach Carrie Korbecki said. "We have some things to work on before Monday, but overall it was a great performance for all the girls."

Jackson featured three of the top four finishers, as Taryn Overstreet placed third with a 78 and her sister Ella Overstreet was a stroke behind at 79. Jacie Pattengill tied for 10th with a 93 to complete the Indians' team score.

Korbecki said Rhodes had a couple of birdies in her round and sank a 30-foot putt on No. 17 to save par.

"It was a busy day of scrambling for some pars, but they overcame the trouble," Korbecki said.
