SD ROUNDUP: Sikeston tennis swept by Kennett; Kelly softball beats Saxony Lutheran 19-0

SIKESTON — The Sikeston girls tennis team dropped its match to Kennett on Thursday.

The Bulldogs got swept in every singles and doubles match.

In singles matches, Mackenzie Conway lost to Anelle Harris.

Isabel Collins fell to Taylor Hufford while Claudia Santos lost to Kamryn Jaco. Audrey Phillips defeated Quinn Riley, Zakyirrah Montjoy lost to Molly McClain, and Katelin Taber fell to Carley Winston to round out singles’ competition.

In doubles action, Conway and Collins lost to Harris and Hufford, while the teams of Santos and Riley, and Montjoy and Taber also fell in their matches.

Jackson 8, Charleston 1

JACKSON, Mo. — Charleston fell 8-1 to Jackson in girls tennis on Thursday.

The lone point came from Ashanti Jones, in singles’ action. She defeated Marissa Buehler 8-3.

SOFTBALL

Kelly 19, Saxony Lutheran 0

JACKSON, Mo. — Fresh off of a 13-3 win over Cape Central on Wednesday, the bats stayed red hot for the Kelly softball team, going into Thursday’s game against Saxony Lutheran.

The Hawks blistered the Crusaders, with 19 runs, in four innings.

Kelly Ivy went 3-for-4 at the plate, with a double and a triple, and four RBIs. Alaney Moore went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple of her own, along with three RBIs.

Kendyl Stuckey added three RBIs as well for the Hawks.

FALL BASEBALL

Bell City 3, Oran 0

BELL CITY, Mo. — Luke Nichols pitched a gem for the Bell City baseball team on Thursday.

Nichols threw 6 2/3 innings, giving up six hits on zero earned runs and striking out 13, in the Cubs 3-0 win over Oran.

Oran’s Kaden Hargrove didn’t pitch bad either.

Hargrove went 4 1/3 innings, giving up five hits on three earned runs and six strikeouts.

Todd Priggel and Kole Simms each went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Eagles.

Jack Duenne went 1-for-2 with two RBIs for the Cubs. Jeffrey Allen went 2-for-2 at the plate as well, and was the only Bell City player with multiple hits.
