History was made on Thursday for the inaugural Saxony Lutheran girls tennis program.

But it was made on another school's turf.

The Crusaders posted an 8-1 victory over Charleston on Thursday at Cape Girardeau Central High School as Saxony does not yet have a tennis court on its campus in Fruitland. The Crusaders are fielding both a varsity and junior varsity tennis team for the first time in the school's history.

Coach Mitch Baker, who coached for 29 years at Charleston, was pleased with his team's performance.

"I was glad to see them play well," he said. "Lots of room for improvement, but I saw a lot of positive things."

The Crusaders (1-0) swept the singles and only dropped one doubles match as they notched their spot in school history with a win. It was the third-straight loss for the Blue Jays (0-3).

Baker said his team will not have very many "home" games this season since they do not have a court. The Crusaders are scheduled to be back in action Sept. 14 in the Cape Central Doubles Team Tournament.
