Pistol Shrimp halt Catfish win streak at eight games

The Cape Catfish were on the wrong end of a game for the first time in two weeks.

A two-run DuPage seventh inning broke a tie and sent Cape to a 4-2 loss Friday in Lisle, Illinois.

The loss snapped an eight-game winning streak for the Catfish (33-14) as they were stymied by on offense, mustering only two hits in the game.

DuPage (27-17) went up 1-0 in the first inning when Paul Kunst scored on a fielder's choice. Gáosh Williams scored on an error in the third for a 2-0 lead.

Cape answered in the fifth when Julian Pedrouzo's singled home Taylor Pridgen to make it 2-1. In the sixth, Zane Wallace scored from third when the Pistol Shrimp had to throw to first to retire Curtis Washington Jr. on a strikeout.

DuPage broke the tie in the seventh when Kunst singled to score Williams. Eli Larson later came home on a fielder's choice.

Pistol Shrimp starter Garrett Navarra and relievers Ryan Eiermann and Ryan Palmbald combined for 16 strikeouts. Palmbald earned the win.

Bryan McNeely started the game and was effective, going five innings, allowing two runs on four hits. He also struck out three. Gage Smart relieved in the sixth, but struggled. Smart took the loss, going 1 1/3 innings with two earned runs.

Cape continues its road trip today when it visits Springfield, Illinois, for a doubleheader. The first game against the sliders will begin at 6 p.m.
