STATESMAN ROUNDUP: Thurston pitches well in Dexter baseball's 2-1 loss; Dexter golf takes second in SEMO Conference tournament

Dexter’s Luke Thurston held his own in a pitcher’s duel against Doniphan’s Jake Eddington.

However, the Bearcats couldn’t muster enough offense in a 2-1 loss to the Dons on Monday at Doniphan.

“It was a well played game,” Dexter coach Drew Pixley said. “The pitcher from Doniphan is pretty solid. Luke did an excellent job of competing on the mound. That was the best any one of our pitchers have thrown this year. Hopefully, even though we lost the game, we can build off this game. If we can, no matter what our record is, we'll be a tough game for anybody.”

The Dons (9-9) scored two runs in the fifth on a hit, a walk and an error.

Dexter (2-13) cut the lead in half with a run in the seventh. Thurston was struck by a pitch. Garrett Henson singled to right field and the ball was misplayed in the outfield. Thurston scored on the play.

The Advance baseball team scored four runs in the seventh inning to beat the Cubs 6-2 Monday at Bell City.
