DDD Rounup: Kennett golf collects home win, Portageville baseball beats Campbell 8-2

KENNETT, Mo. - The success continued for the Kennett golf team in its home match against Saxony Lutheran and Cape Central Wednesday at Kennett Country Club.

Kennett (167) finished 22 strokes ahead of district rival Saxony Lutheran (189) and 62 shots better than Cape Central 229.

Kennett’s Hayden Faulkner posted 40 to earn medalist honors in the nine-hole match.

Kennett will compete in the SEMO Conference Tournament Monday at Sikeston.

Portageville 8, Campbell 2

PORTAGEVILLE, Mo. - The Portageville Bulldogs baseball team added a key district victory to its resume Wednesday night.

Portageville scored the final five runs on its way past visiting Campbell 8-2 in a matchup featuring Class 2, District 1 teams.

Both teams plated a run in the first inning before Portageville (12-4) scored two runs in the bottom of the second inning to move ahead 3-1. Campbell (8-4) cut the deficit to 3-2 when it scored a run in the top of the third inning. Portageville added a run in the bottom of the fifth inning and four more runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to set the final score.

The top three hitters in the Portageville lineup collected all seven of their RBIs. Leadoff hitter Bub Lance finished 1-for-2 with one RBI, No. 2 hitter Gabe Hughes went 1-for-4 with two RBIs, and No. 3 hitter Connor Barham finished 3-for-4 with three RBIs.

Kaden Sibert and Hankins both drove home a run for Campbell.

Kile Adams pitched the first four innings and Barham pitched the final three innings for Portageville. Adams allowed two runs (one earned), two hits, struck out one, and walked four. Barham allowed no runs, no hits, struck out five, and walked four.

Ben Barnett pitched the first 5 2/3 innings for Campbell. He allowed eight runs (four earned), 11 hits, struck out two, and walked three.
