The Southeast Missouri State softball team picked up a 4-3 win over in-state foe Saint Louis on Wednesday at the Southeast Softball Complex as the Redhawks tied their win total from last season.

Haley Thogmartin got the save as Southeast (33-12) held off a late SLU rally.

The Billikens (10-29) trailed 4-1 heading into the seventh before scoring two runs on back-to-back solo home runs. Haley Thogmartin re-entered the game after the second home run and got the final three outs of the game, exceeding 100 career strikeouts in the process.

Southeast scored the first two runs as Sarah Messex picked up an RBI single in the second, and Rachel Anderson scored on a groundout in the third.

SLU got one run back in the sixth. Southeast then added two more insurance runs in the bottom of the frame and held on for the win thanks to Thogmartin.

Kaylee Anderson had two hits to lead Southeast at the plate, and Alexis Estes picked up the win, tossing two scoreless innings.

Track and field

Southeast junior Logan Blomquist was named Ohio Valley Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week for the second week in a row, the conference announced Wednesday.

Blomquist got gold in the discus and was second in the hammer throw at the Joe Walker Invitational at Ole Miss last weekend.
