Southeast Missouri State softball sweeps OVC weekly honors
For the first time in nine years, Southeast Missouri State softball swept the weekly Ohio Valley Conference honors, the league announced Monday.
Junior outfielder Rachel Anderson garnered OVC Player of the Week honors, and senior Haley Thogmartin was unanimously named OVC Pitcher of the Week.
The Redhawks won three out of four games last week as Anderson went 9-for-12 at the plate with five walks, two home runs, four doubles, five RBIs and four runs scored. She had a .824 on-base percentage and a 1.583 slugging percentage in those four games. She is currently tied for second in the nation with a .505 batting average.
Thogmartin notched a pair of complete-game victories and a save. The St. Louis native didn't allow an earned run in those three appearances. She went 1-0 with a save in the Redhawks' sweep of Eastern Kentucky on April 1, recording a career-high 10 strikeouts in the Game 1 victory.
She then got the victory against SIU Edwardsville on Saturday. She is 12-3 with a 1.74 ERA.
Southeast last swept the awards on Feb. 15, 2010, when Renee Kertz was named OVC Player of the Week, and Whitney Dupuis OVC Pitcher of the Week.
