MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Kelly baseball team overtakes East Prairie with three-run seventh

Bryce Phelps singled home the winning run as the Kelly baseball team scored three runs in the bottom of the seventh to post a 4-3 walk-off victory over East Prairie on Friday in Benton, Missouri.

The Hawks trailed 3-0 before starting their comeback with a single run in the sixth.

Drew Dirnberger was the winning pitcher for Kelly (4-0). He threw 2 2/3 hitless innings and had four strikeouts and three walks.

Carson Aycock went 6 1/3 innings on the mound and took the loss for the Eagles (3-1). He allowed four earned runs on seven hits with eight strikeouts and four walks.

Lane Moody blasted a home run to pace East Prairie at the plate.

Kelly is back in action on Monday when it hosts Chaffee.

Collin Dumey smacked a home run, a double and finished with seven RBIs to lead the Bulldogs to their first win of the season in a slugfest victory over another Bulldogs squad from Mokane, Missouri, in the opening round of the Borgia/Union Tournament in Washington, Missouri.

Austin Gast picked up the win for Notre Dame, pitching three innings and giving up five runs (three earned) on six hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Cayden Dannenmueller also doubled and hit a home run for the Bulldogs, who pounded 16 hits en route to victory.

Drake Davidson went four innings on the mound to suffer the loss for South Callaway County (5-1). He allowed 10 earned runs on 11 hits with four strikeouts and two walks.

Collin Dumey blasted another home run but the Bulldogs were unable to carry the momentum over from their first win of the day in a loss to the host Blue Knights at the Borgia/Union Tournament.

Kam Dohogne went the distance on the mound and took the loss for Notre Dame (1-1). Seven runs were earned and he had five strikeouts and one walk.

Joe Schmidt got the complete-game win for St. Francis Borgia (4-1), allowing one earned run with eight strikeouts and one walk.

Notre Dame resumes tournament action at 9 a.m. today against Jefferson City in the semifinals at Union High School.

Tanner King delivered for the Crusaders on the mound and at the plate, going 3-for-3 at the plate and driving in four runs to lead the Crusaders past the visiting Wildcats.

King went four innings on the mound to obtain the win for Saxony Lutheran (2-1). He allowed three runs (two earned) on four hits and recorded nine strikeouts and one walk.

Gage McNeil was the losing pitcher and also doubled for Bloomfield (0-3).

Garrett Dobbelare hit a double and had three RBIs as a strong third inning helped the Indians come away with their first conference victory of the season in the six-inning road win over the Eagles in Hillsboro, Missouri.

Kaleb Whistler pitched three innings to earn the win for St. Vincent (2-1, 1-0 JCAA Conference-Small Schools Division). He gave up three runs (two earned) on no hits, walking seven batters and striking out five.

Dawson Milner was the losing pitcher for Grandview (0-3, 0-1). He threw 3 1/3 innings and surrendered nine runs (three earned) on five hits, walked nine batters and had one strikeout.

Chase Wilson doubled and batted in four runs to pace the Eagles at the plate.

The BlueJays couldn't muster a hit in the three-inning loss at home to the undefeated Mules.

Abbi Nix tossed a complete game and took the loss for Oak Ridge (0-4). Nine runs were earned and she walked eight batters and struck out one.

Cassidy Freed went the distance in the circle to get the win for Bernie (5-0). She had five strikeouts and no walks.

Noon Optimist Club Tournament

Ettienne Soto and Emma Brune each had a goal and an assist as Saxony Lutheran edged Sikeston 2-1 in the semifinals of the Noon Optimist Club Tournament at Notre Dame Regional High School.

Kelsie Anderson scored the lone goal for Sikeston (1-2). The Crusaders (3-1) will go up against the host Bulldogs at 3 p.m. today for the championship.

Notre Dame beat Perryville in penalty kicks after the teams battled to a 3-3 tie in regulation in the other semifinal of the evening. Bailey Beussink, Megan Heisserer and Hannah Miller each netted a goal for the Bulldogs (2-0). Leah Buerck, Kirstin Jannin and Jaylen Strattman had the goals for the Pirates (2-1), who will challenge Sikeston for third place at 1 p.m. today.

Notre Dame's junior varsity (2-2-1) dealt an 8-1 loss to Poplar Bluff's varsity in one of the two consolation semifinals of the day. Cape Girardeau Central edged St. Vincent 3-2 in the other consolation semifinal as the Tigers avenged a loss suffered to the Indians only four days earlier to move into the consolation championship where they will take on Notre Dame's junior varsity.
