Kennett’s Matthew Hamer signs to play basketball at Ecclesia College
Kennett High School senior Matthew Hamer signed to play basketball with Ecclesia College in Springdale, Arkansas, last week.
Hamer reflected on his time playing basketball at the high school level at the signing ceremony at Kennett High School.
“It’s been rocky,” Hamer said. “I had injuries. Last year, I met Coach Halford and he really helped me this summer and gave me some confidence.”
Hamer continued: “He really helped me out. I don’t think I would have gotten to this point if it hadn’t been for him.”
Hamer stated he is looking forward to playing for Ecclesia.
“I’m anxious to see what I can do at the college level of basketball,” he said. “It’s a Christian school I’m going to. It’s a good campus.”
Hamer shared he is interested in computer science and graphic engineering but is undecided on his major at this time.
Kennett basketball coach Andrew Halford had high praise for Hamer.
“He’s an extremely hard-working young man who’s going to continue to excel with athletics,” Halford said. “He’s got the want to and drive. He has a good support system and family.”
Halford continued: “He’s going to a good Christian place that’s going to instill values and morals as he goes forward. He’ll be a good representative of our community and our school. We’re hoping the best for him.”
