Kennett baseball opens season with wins against Charleston & Neelyville

CHARLESTON, Mo. - The Kennett Indians varsity baseball team opened its season with a pair of wins Saturday at Charleston.

Kennett beat host Charleston 3-0 in its first game Saturday.

Payton Heinley, who finished 2 for 3, drove home Kennett’s first two runs in the top of the third inning. Reese Robinett plated the Indians’ other run in the top of the fifth inning to set the final score.

Five pitchers saw time on the mound for the Indians.

Payton Heinley allowed no hits, struck out four, and walked one in two innings pitched. Bodey Ellis allowed no hits, struck out three, and walked one in one inning pitched. Robinett allowed one hit, struck out three, and did not walk a batter in two innings pitched.

Kobe Gates walked both hitters he faced before being relieved by Marshall Brown who retired all three hitters he faced. Brown struck out two.

Kennett vs. Neelyville

Kennett scored in every inning it batted as it beat Neelyville 11-1 in five innings in its second game Saturday.

Neelyville led 1-0 after one-half inning before Kennett scored two runs in the bottom of the first inning, two more in the second frame, five runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth inning, and another run in the fifth frame.

Reese Robinett recorded an unprecedented three doubles for Kennett. He finished 3 for 4 with a team-high three RBIs.

Kobe Gates went 3 for 3 with two RBIs, Payton Heinley was 2 for 3 with two RBIs, and Bodey Ellis finished 2 for 4 with two RBIs for the Indians.

Andrew Spence and Braden Tice also recorded one RBI each for Kennett.

Parker McClain pitched the first four innings for Kennett. He allowed four hits, one earned run, struck out two, and did not walk a batter.

J.T. Williams pitched a scoreless fifth inning for Kennett. He retired all three hitters he faced and struck out one.

Kennett (2-0) hosts Poplar Bluff Tuesday.
