SD ROUNDUP: Sikeston soccer drops match to Cape Central; Bulldogs softball also falls to Tigers 15-9

SIKESTON — Tuesday was a defensive battle between Cape Central and Sikeston, as the two conference and district rivals duked it out on the pitch.

The Tigers got the upper hand, though, with a pair of goals to defeat the Bulldogs 2-0, at the Sikeston Recreation Complex in Sikeston.

Sikeston fell back to .500 with the loss, and will take-on play at Perryville tomorrow at 5 p.m. The Bulldogs are in the midst of a tough three-day stretch of games but will return home on Thursday to face Carbondale, Ill., at the Sikeston Recreation Complex to close the stretch.

VOLLEYBALL

Leopold 2, Oran 0

ORAN, Mo. — Leopold (6-2-2) proved to be too much for Oran to handle on Tuesday, as the Eagles lost in straight sets.

Oak Ridge 2, Oran 0

ORAN, Mo. — Maggie Howe had her way against the Oran (3-6) defense on Monday.

Howe had eight kills for Oak Ridge (3-0) in its straight-set victory over the Eagles, at Oran High School.

On the mound, Abby Cooper struggled to retire batters, as she only lasted 1/3 of an inning. She gave up six hits and six earned runs.

The Bulldogs didn’t go down without a fight, though, as they scored six runs in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Cape Central lead to just four at the time.

Iraca Weakley and Megan Witt each had a double in the frame. Weakley finished the game 3-3 with two runs scored, while Witt finished 2-3 and a team-high three RBI.

JV FOOTBALL

POPLAR BLUFF, Mo. — Adrian Blissett’s 5-yard touchdown pass to Anthony Dukes was all of the offense that the Sikeston junior varsity football team had against Poplar Bluff on Monday at Poplar Bluff High School.

The Mules defense proved to be too much and, offensively, running the football proved to be a problem for the Bulldogs to stop. All three of Poplar Bluff’s scores came on running plays.
