Jackson Post 158 Senior Legion baseball breezes through pool play at wood-bat tournament
The Jackson Post 158 Senior Legion baseball team plowed through the competition during pool play of the Belleville (Ill.) Wood Bat Tournament on Saturday and Sunday in Belleville, Illinois.
Jackson went 4-0 across the two days, including a 3-0 win over Valmeyer (Ill.) that clinched first place in the pool Sunday and secured a semifinal berth, to be played today at 10 a.m.
Tyler Martin got the win on the mound in that game, throwing a complete-game two-hitter. Boone Gartman had a double in the contest.
In Sunday's other contest, Post 158 (21-5) dropped Wentzville 6-0, with Braeden Dobbs the winning pitcher. Landon Hahn was 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the victory.
During Saturday's doubleheader, Cole Welker picked up a victory with 4 1/3 innings on the mound, giving up one run on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
Jakoata Walther threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, while Seth Essner was 2-for-4 with three RBIs, Dobbs was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a triple and Martin was 3-for-4 with a double in a 6-1 victory against Belleville (Ill.).
Jackson also dropped Rolla 10-1, with Tanner Hecht the winning pitcher with five innings of work and Tyler Harris knocking a three-RBI double.
