MISSOURIAN ROUNDUP: Perryville baseball secures conference title with win over Windsor

Derek Kirn belted a two-run home run as the Perryville baseball team clinched the regular-season conference championship with a 7-3 victory over Windsor on the road in Imperial, Missouri, on Tuesday.

Trent Unterreiner was the winning pitcher and had a double and two RBIs for the Pirates (12-7, 4-0 JCAA Conference-Large Schools Division). He gave up three earned runs on seven hits and recorded seven strikeouts and two walks.

Josh Hoehn also doubled and drove in two runs for the victors.

Carter Schmutzler pitched five innings to sustain the loss for Windsor (5-14, 1-2). He relinquished six earned runs on five hits and tallied five strikeouts and four walks.

Caeden Knepp pitched five innings to pick up the win for Cape Girardeau Central (9-11, 2-5 SEMO Conference). He allowed three earned runs on nine hits and recorded five strikeouts and three walks.

Landon Henson went 3 2/3 innings on the mound to be marked with the loss for Dexter (3-14, 2-5). He surrendered 10 runs (eight earned) on 10 hits with three strikeouts and four walks.

Megan Heisserer netted three goals for the hat trick as the visiting Bulldogs ended the Pirates' 11-game winning streak.

Shelby Bauwens, Lauren Powderly and Kristin Tarno provided the assists for Notre Dame (13-3-1).

Perryville dropped to 12-3-1 with the loss. No additional information was provided.

Jackson 10, Cape Central 0

Natalie Miller had an impressive performance and netted four goals as the Indians trounced their archrivals on the road.

Grace Pehle recorded two goals and one assist while Mik Liley dished out three assists and added one goal for Jackson (14-4, 6-0 SEMO Conference). Olivia Ward sank two goals and Katelyn Miller had the other goal for the Indians, who got an assist apiece from Ivy Guilliams and Lauren Welker.

Goalkeeper Emily Hermann had two saves to get the shutout.

Cape Girardeau Central dropped to 4-10-1 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Saxony Lutheran 6, North County 1

Laurel Mueller posted a hat trick to lead the Crusaders to a comfortable home victory over the Raiders.

Emma Brune recorded two goals and two assists for Saxony Lutheran (12-3-1) while Briann Jenkins had the other goal. Makayla Mueller dished out two assists for the Crusaders, who got an additional assist from Addi Beussink and Kennedy Dillow.

North County fell to 10-7 on the season with the loss.

SOFTBALL

Greenville 11, Woodland 9

Kaylie Davis hit a double and drove in two runs, but it was not enough as the third-seeded Cardinals' season came to an end with the loss to the second-seeded Bears in the semifinals of the Class 1 District 5 Tournament at Rotary Park in Piedmont, Missouri.

Maddison Altenthal spent five innings in the circle to suffer the loss for Woodland (8-12). She gave up nine runs (eight earned) on 11 hits, walked six batters and struck out two.

Jaden Francis pitched a complete game to obtain the win for Greenville (9-9). She allowed three earned runs and had two strikeouts and three walks.

The Bears will face top-seeded host and Wayne County nemesis Clearwater for the district title at 3:30 p.m. today.

Alex Dow nailed 18 kills but the Bulldogs failed to finish in a thrilling three-set home loss to the Cougars.

John Scherer hammered eight kills for Notre Dame (9-11) while Alex Burger provided 36 assists in the back-and-forth affair. Tanner Peters notched 19 digs and Kennedy Mansfield tallied 15 digs to pace the Bulldogs' defensive effort.

Affton upped its record to 15-8-1 with the win.

The Tigers didn't drop a single match as the Indians dropped their home finale.

Jackson (0-13) wraps up its regular season today when it travels to Sikeston.

Windsor Invitational

The Notre Dame girls finished third and the boys took fourth place at the 14-team Windsor Invitational in Imperial, Missouri.

Natalie Timpe posted a first-place time of 1 minute, 1.17 seconds in the 400-meter dash for the Bulldogs and Megan Jansen won the 800 with a time of 2:25.60. The two were also a part of Notre Dame's 1,600 relay team that won first place.

For the boys, Blake Morris won the 3,200 run with a time of 10:5.10 for the Bulldogs. He was also a part of Notre Dame's 3,200 relay team that posted a first-place finish of 8:35.70. In field events, Matt Gibbs won the high jump and Evan Bruenderman clinched first place in the triple jump.

The St. Vincent boys landed in eighth place overall in the team standings. Isaac Layton and Joseph Baer both posted fourth-place finishes in 400 dash and 1600 run, respectively, to pace the Indians, and Charles Sauer also took fourth place in the high jump.
