SD ROUNDUP: Sikeston baseball team wins two games on Saturday; Notre Dame, Jackson edge Oran

NEELYVILLE, Mo. — The Sikeston baseball team continued its winning ways on Saturday, as the Bulldogs defeated Doniphan High School 7-6 in the second day of the Neelyville Tournament.

Junior Nate Self was active on both the mound and the plate. At the plate, Self went 2-for-3 — which continued his nine-game hit streak — with one RBI and two runs scored.

On the mound, Self pitched 5 2/3 innings, giving up six hits on one earned run and 11 strikeouts.

Sophomore Payton Howard hit a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning, which gave the Bulldogs a 6-3 lead at the time.

Howard’s home run proved to be critical in the game, as Doniphan rallied in the bottom of the inning. Doniphan scored three runs in the bottom of the frame but wound up not being enough, as the Bulldogs hung on for their fifth-straight win.
