Southeast Missouri State softball drops OVC doubleheader to Eastern Kentucky
Southeast Missouri State softball dropped both games of a conference doubleheader at Eastern Kentucky on Sunday.
The Colonels prevailed 5-4 and 3-0 at Gertrude Hood Field in Richmond, Kentucky, thanks to some heroics from Emily Corbitt.
Corbitt drove in the game-winning run with a walk-off sacrifice fly in Game 1 and hit a two-run homer in Game 2.
In the first game, SEMO (27-18 overall, 11-7 Ohio Valley Conference) led 3-0 after four innings before coughing up the lead in the fifth. EKU (29-14, 11-1) hit back-to-back home runs and Corbitt delivered a two-RBI single.
The Redhawks tied the game next time up with Sarah Messex scoring on a wild pitch. That just set the stage for Corbitt's game-winning RBI.
Rachel Rook took the loss, giving up one run in 2 1/3 innings.
In the nightcap, Corbitt's homer was part of a three-run fourth inning. That was all the offensive production Mollie Paulick needed as she gave up just four hits and recorded four strikeouts in the complete-game shutout.
Madeline Krumrey was the losing pitcher, giving up three runs on two walks and three hits.
SEMO ends its six-game road trip with a doubleheader at Saint Louis on Wednesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4 p.m.
