2018 Standard Democrat Boys Basketball Player of the Year: Fred Thatch, Sikeston
Arguably considered the best-ever to come from Sikeston High School, Fred Thatch certainly made a strong case for it.
The Saint Louis University commit averaged 21.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.4 steals for a Sikeston team that finished 27-3 and reached the state semifinals for the second time in his career. His dynamic farewell season ended with numerous accolades, which included being named to the USA TODAY High School SportsAmercian Family Insurance ALL-USA Missouri Boys Basketball Team, taking Class 4’s Player of the Year honors for the second time and a second SEMO Conference Player of the Year selection.
Thatch ended his four-year career at Sikeston as the school’s all-time leader in points scored (2,382), rebounds (1,198) and assists (488). He’s also second all-time in steals (307).
