Sikeston's Fred Thatch, Hayti's Darius Jones named MBCA Players of the Year
For the second time in three seasons, Sikeston's Fred Thatch was named the Class 4 Player of the Year during the announcement of the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association all-state teams on Wednesday.
Thatch, who was also named the player of the year after his sophomore season, finished his senior year averaging 21.1 points, 9.8 rebounds, 4.7 assists and 2.4 steals per game while shooting 80 percent from the free-throw line and 41 percent from 3-point range.
He concluded his Bulldog career with a school-record 2,370 points, a school-record 1,196 career rebounds and a school-record 480 career assists.
In Class 3, Charleston's senior duo of Mardareyon Clark and Demarcus Sharp were named to the all-state team as was Malden's Dushawn Butler.
Hayti senior Darius Jones was named the Class 2 Player of the Year. Teammate Kobe Cooper, Oran's Jacob Shoemaker and Bernie's Nate Dillinger were also named to the Class 2 all-state team.
Advance teammates Armani Vermillion and Michael Hood made the Class 1 all-state team.
On the girl's side, Dexter's Chaylea Mosby was named to the Class 4 all-state team.
New Madrid County Central freshman Tylei Wofford-Byrd was a Class 3 all-state selection while Oran's Leah Cauble made the Class 2 squad.
