Let's start a pick 'em like they do with football to help generate more discussion of high school volleyball, which unfortunately has been lacking this season. Enter your predictions on whom you think will win the following 11 volleyball districts. Just pick the winners (you don't have to pick whom they'll beat or what the score will be). Voting will remain open now until next Monday, October 19 at midnight (or 11:59 p.m. on Sunday, October 18th). A total of 74 points is available - winner shall receive bragging rights! :)
You can edit/revise your choices up to the deadline, but in the event of a tie, such factors like number of edits and how soon predictions were submitted will be considered.

Can anyone tell me why Bloomfield got the #1 seed when they have a 500 record? Woodland should have been the 1st seed. Is it because the district turny is at Bloomfield?
-- Posted by Ftballrules on Tue, Oct 13, 2015, at 8:27 PM
Maybe because Bloomfield beat Woodland in straight sets when they played?
-- Posted by Larry Doby on Tue, Oct 13, 2015, at 8:55 PM
I kinda thought that but looking at all the other districts the team with the best record was 1st, guess it really doesn't matter because u have to win out, but thought it was odd. Thnx!

SOS and head to head both factor. Farmington is 1 seed in our district at 14-12 while we are 15-9. Farmington beat us 2-1 head to head and played in a higher level tourney going 1-4 there.

The records on MSHSAA aren't always right. The district coaches are the ones who determine the seeds. Minus their own team, they seed all the other teams from 1-5 or 1-6 and whichever team has the least amount is the top seed and so forth, so apparently the Class 2 District 2 coaches thought that Bloomfield was the best team in the district.
As Larry Doby correctly indicates, Bloomfield defeated Woodland so that probably explains why they are seeded higher. Indian Pride makes a good point as well. Sometimes records on paper are deceiving: you have to look at the strength of each team's schedule as well. Farmington has played in two very tough tournaments but given the fact that they have won the Class 4 District 1 title for the past five consecutive years, stands to reason why the Knightettes got the top seed in that district.
Thanks to everyone who has put in their picks and brought up discussion of volleyball - that's what this thread was created for! Keep 'em coming! Less than a week now before districts begin...

A lot of tournament seeds are determined on line now and that adds to the problem. Coaches don't get together and discuss so much can be lost on email discussions. Also you have some coaches that just don't prepare or care because they know where they are going to be seeded and don't spend the time to do the research to make an informative decisions.

Farmington is a good team that plays in a tough conference. They were seeded 5th for the conference tournament and got beat by 4th seed Valle Catholic Monday.
