Other High School Sports Forum: Dstrict Wrestling Tournament Tonight!

Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Fri, Feb 10, 2012, at 11:38 AM:

Dexter and Notre Dame travel to DeSoto to begin the Class 2, District 1 tournament. It starts tonight and goes all day Saturday. Dexter has 8 wrestlers that are seeded in the top 5 of their respective weight classes, including 3 ranked #1 and 2 wrestlers ranked #2. The #1 seeds are: Cole Dean (132 lbs.), Dylan Bazarian (152 lbs.), and Cody Stevens (160 lbs.). Their #2 seeds are Trevor Waldner (126 lbs.) and Zach Lacy (220 lbs.). My son is ranked #5 in 182 lb. division. But only the top 4 go on to state, so he has some work to do.

ND's Trevor Foltz is seeded #2 in 182 lb. division. Not sure of their other wrestlers.

Also not sure if the other classes begin their districts tonight too, but Sikeston has some wrestlers who I think will compete at state, including Blake Angle and Kenton Sanders and maybe some others.

Good luck to all semo wrestlers! It'll be an exciting weekend of high school wrestling!

  • Oops, its Kenton Robinson of Sikeston, not Sanders. Sorry Bulldog fans!

  • Dexter is in 3rd place after Friday night. All three of our #1 seeds won out tonight as did Waldner, but Lacy suffered an upset. He can still qualify for state but has some work to do tomorrow. My son went 1-1; suffered a tough 11-8 loss. He needs to win 3 matches tomorrow, but did pull one upset tonight, so he can definitely do it.

  • Dexter sends 5 wrestlers to state. Cody Stevens took 1st at 170 lbs. Trevor Waldner was 2nd at 126 lbs., Dylan Bazarian took 2nd at 152 lbs., Cole Dean took 3rd at 132 lbs., and Brad Wick took 4th at 170 lbs. My son went 1-1 today again and did not qualify for state, but still had a great season overall. At last check, Dexter was in 5th place in the team standings.

Notre Dame's Trever Foltz took 2nd place at 182 lbs. Don't know if they had any other qualifiers.

Congrats to the Dexter wrestling team and Coaches Schwab and Sneed for the best season in many years!
