High School Football Forum: Gridiron Pick'em Week 5

*
Posted by BuckMajor on Wed, Sep 25, 2013, at 1:47 PM:

Welcome to another week of Gridiron Pick'em. Last week may have seemed like an "easier" week with only one statistical upset in NMCC's victory. This week I see many more games being toss ups, or games that could go either way and be deteremined by just a few plays. So this week should be a lot of fun, and I just had to do two games of the week!

few rules:

The picks have to be in by the time the game starts.

If you pick an upset, and you are the only one that picks that team to win and they win, you will recieve a 2 point bonus. If two people pick it you split the bonus.

The winner each week recieves a two point bonus

I may introduce other games inside the game each week (such as pick the High School running back that rushes for the most yards this week).

So without further ado, here are this weeks games:

1. NMCC vs. Caruthersville (1 Point)

2. Cleveland NJROTC vs. Charleston (1 Point)

3. Chaffee vs. Scott City (1 Point)

4. East Prairie vs. Malden (1 point)

5. Poplar Bluff vs. Sikeston (2 Points)

6. Dexter vs. Kennett (2 Points)

7. Hayti vs. Portageville (2 Points)

Games Of The Week - please pick winner and final score:

8. Park Hills vs. Ste. Genevieve (4 points)

9. Cape Central vs. Jackson (4 points)

Like Cheesehead, I thought the Sikeston-Bluff game was the hardest one to pick. I think this is the game that will tell us alot about Sikeston. I look for a low-scoring defensive battle. Also, lots of big rivalry games this week; Buck could've added the Chaffee-SC game to his games of the week too although I believe the Red Devils will roll once again.

  • An interesting discrepancy. Most of the people on this thread think Dexter will beat Kennett while most of the sportswriters picked Kennett over Dexter on Chris Pobst's blog. Will be interesting to see how that turns out.

  • It'll be interesting who Valle selects for their "free" opponent next year. With the new system, bigger schools won't want the burden of possibly losing to a smaller schools but Valle will most likely be looking for a challenge. They might renew it with NMCC or maybe a new SEMO school.

I agree with Preacher. Although I think it's the toughest game to pick a winner, I do think the other games have more meaning as far as rivalries goes.

I dont care what you guys have to say about me because I wasn't the one who was rude and ignorant. I asked a legitimate question to Buck and Preacher Fan gets all holier than thou on me for no flipping reason. I was having fun until Preacher Man aka the 2nd Coming of Jesus Christ gets on here and unleashes his condescending rhetoric. And preacher you're par for the course as well! This is isn't the first time we have words over your Righteous attitude, and it wont be the last...people like you never change.

By the way, has anyone on this site gotten the meaning of my name?

  • What did I say that was so self-righteous Jolly? Did you forget how you mocked BuckMajor for not picking Sikeston vs. Poplar Bluff as the game of the week? You really need to calm down before you get your account suspended or worse, give yourself a heart attack.

But its real easy for you to sit behind the safety of your keyboard and type these insults. Tell you what Jolly, you live in Dexter, name the time and the place (a restaurant) and we'll meet up face-to-face and see if we can't work things out. I'll even pick up the check.

Mock? How did I mock him? Tell me how I mocked him? I asked him a question--that's all I did. So, you tell me how I mocked him! I am pretty sure if Buck thought I was mocking him he would have said something himself and doesn't need you on here defending him when he doesn't need defending because nothing happened.

And I am not a hard guy to find. I actually know a few of the posters on SEMOBall. They're very active nowadays but they used to be. Exzalmanian and semolian. I used to work with those fellas.

And honestly, I just get tired of you opening your mouth on matters that do not concern you or were not directed at you. It really galls me and it crawls under my skin.

    -- Posted by Cabby55 on Fri, Sep 27, 2013, at 12:08 AM
  • "How did the Bluff/Sikeston game not get picked for GOTW? Wow"--Jolly Dump. This isn't a mocking comment Jolly? Also, it wasn't directed specifically to BuckMajor. So it was fair game for me, or anyone else, to respond to it.

Now kindly point out my self-righteous, condescending comment to you? It's never my intent to speak to anyone in that way. My offer of a meal stands whenever you feel like taking me up on it.

-- Posted by Preacher Man Fan on Fri, Sep 27, 2013, at 12:12 AM

No it's not mocking! And sense Buck made the forum, it was directed at him and it was obvious it was directed at him. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Use your common sense Preach.

    When are you not condescending?

"It's Buck's thread, so he can pick whatever games he wants." Again, this is you interjecting yourself into a question that doesn't concern you. The first part of your answer was informative. The second part of your comment wasn't needed.

-- Posted by Jolly Dump on Fri, Sep 27, 2013, at 12:23 AM
  • No, it was a comment about the thread, but not one addressed to anyone in particular. Yes, it would have included Buck, since it's his thread, but it wasn't limited to him. I find it amusing that you condescend to me while rebuking me for being condescending. ("It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out. Use your common sense Preach.")

I also noticed that you didn't mind me commenting on your thread last week when I was agreeing with you on the tobacco issue. I didn't hear anything from you then about me being condescending or self-righteous or meddling. Is it only when I disagree with you that I'm guilty of these things?

But if you say it wasn't a mocking comment, then fine, I apologize. Now I tell you again that my comment you quoted wasn't intended to be condescending, just a statement of fact. Now can't you admit your reaction was just a tad over-the-top?

You obviously are a wise man Preach, so I don't know why you insist that my question wasn't directed to anyone in particular when it most certainly was. Use your brain and that common sense, Man. I am not being condescending. You are a bright man. I sincerely say that, but I am boggled as to the fact you are insisting on that matter. Of course it was directed toward, sense, as you pointed out, it was his forum. I apologize if my words came off as condescending. That was not my intention. And, yes, I do have a tendency of blowing my top and over reacting. I should never have called you the "2nd Coming of Christ" (that was being condescending) and nor should I have suggested you do something with the Bible and a certain body part. That was way too far and I am sorry and embarrassed by my actions. Please forgive me.

Each Week's winner recieves a 2 point bonus, winner when all is said and done at the end of the year will win a $25 Walmart gift card.

Thank you for apologizing guys, thats good. Sometimes people just get caught up and say things that shouldn't say, I'm glad yall were able to work it out.

I didn't pick Sikeston because I try to not use too many teams for GOTW more than once, and I'm saving Sikeston for vs. Cape/Jackson. Sike - PB just isn't as exciting of game for me.

Thanks Buck! Caruthersville is a very balanced team this year compared to previous years. Grissom has improved his passing tremendously. I'm just amazed that NMCC hasn't put it together more than they have. When I went to school, NMCC was best in Semo in Football and Basketball. That's when they had Derek Tipler back in 2000 I think. man playing NMCC in them days was a guaranteed loss. It's hard to believe it's lack of talent because NMCC does have playmakers. I'd sure like to see them become a powerhouse in Class 3 again.
