Glad to see Sikeston finally get some recognition for their hard work after a season opening loss.

  • Y isn't Sikeston on the top 10 of their class? They were state champs last year.

    This is FOOTBALL.

  • Just wish one of the teams from down here wins it all.

    Amen to that!

I have to say the "Also receiving votes" category in Class 4 is pretty screwed up. Sikeston should be receiving more than 2 votes. Only 1 vote better then a 5-4 school, that's awful. I'd be embarrassed if I voted in this poll and the end product was that.

  • First complaining about not getting any votes, then complains about getting votes, wow.

I'm just glad to see that we are getting votes again. I figured we'd have to at least beat Farmington. Perhaps Rosener finally threw us a bone since we ruined his dream sectional matchup of Cape-Farmington. I'd hate to see his reaction if Sikeston actually wins the district after the "Sikeston's run is done" comment.

Scott, you and I have a good mutual respect but I think you are overplaying things a bit because you can play the comparative schedule game with anyone. Hannibal also beat Hickman by 10. Heck, Hannibal beat Helias by 18. Farmington beat Hannibal by 42. So technically Sikeston shouldn't compete with Farmington at all. Teams play up, teams play down. I didn't see the game but maybe Hickman played up or Gateway played down. Same with the other games mentioned. We know that Helias is generally a good team that can and will compete with anyone. However, they are down over their normal selves this year. Compiling an 8-1 record after going down the first game, Sikeston has earned their votes.

Not to be a Jerk Scott, but if you want to play merry-go-around then lets go!

Helias lost to Hannibal (28-0) who lost to Farmington (48-6). Farmington won over Cape (49-34) who Sikeston also beat but by a lot more points, (41-17).

So yes not only to I believe Sikeston should have more votes then Helias, your theory also proves it.

FYI, Helias just lost to Hannibal 2 weeks ago. Helias beat Hickman 4 weeks ago. Just a little perspective.

Wasn't trying to copy Sideline. My bad, you just beat me to the punch and I didn't know it.

Yeah, Class 4 has quite a few strong teams this year. As I have detailed before, there are at least 6-7 teams on the East side who I would not be shocked one bit to be the representative in the Dome this year. Webb is always just above everyone else. That's the way it is. That's why just making the Dome would be a huge deal.

MICDS is good, Ladue is very underrated, Gateway has a great offense like it or not, Farmington is doing very well, Borgia is unbeaten and is looking to be tops in a district that had three unbeaten teams coming in, and Sikeston has an underrated defense that has developed well over the season to go with a good offense. Any of those teams can make it to the Dome.

  • "Perhaps Rosener finally threw us a bone."

sideline...I can tell you, that wasn't the case!

Honestly guys I know Class 4 is good and I wasn't trying to start a whole "who is better" convo. All I was saying is if you're going to have a 5-4 team receive 2 votes and TWO, not one, TWO 8-1 teams receive one vote apiece, then the 5-4 have better have won their last five games IN A ROW versus unmeasurable competition.

I guess he won't be convinced unless we beat Farmington. At that point, I wouldn't be shocked if he just left them off his poll and still ignored us.

Scott, we do keep up with teams outside of the SEMO area, just throwing that out there. Hah.

sikeston should be ranked, or at least seriously considered not sure what other teams in top 10 schedules are like, and it looks like Helias has been playing SEC schools w/ that record...sikeston plays Farmington in a couple of weeks, that will tell us where they are..

isn't sikeston's only loss to a ranked class 6 team? I could be wrong, it's happened before.. i forgot who they opened up with

P.S. i am not a sikeston fan, not "from" sikeston, i grew up a bitter rival of sikeston.. so i'm not making a biased opinion, it actually hurt my feelings a little to say those nice things.. :)

-- Posted by secretagentman on Wed, Oct 26, 2011, at 8:05 AM
  • agent....we lost to Gateway Tech in the opener. They are a Class 4 school.

Being that you are a bitter rival, I can feel the love!! :-)

    -- Posted by Rocket689 on Wed, Oct 26, 2011, at 8:45 AM
  • Sikeston lost to Gateway Tech -- Class 4. That was one of the WORST games I've seen Sikeston play. They looked awful. (Saw it on KFVS)

BUT Sikeston has good coaches and they have appeared to have gotten much better since that game.

On the rankings -- who cares? No big deal.

  • It is what it is so let it go.

    -- Posted by Jebbie88 on Wed, Oct 26, 2011, at 11:01 AM
  • One4kids, didn't you say sikeston would have a 5-5 record? I haven't heard much from you since

-- Posted by Dustin Ruby on Wed, Oct 26, 2011, at 3:08 PM
  • And that cape would have a 12-13 win season

-- Posted by Dustin Ruby on Wed, Oct 26, 2011, at 3:17 PM

"Sikeston will be, at best, 5-5. Not bad for a rebuilding year. They will lose to the teams they should. If I am right they will be 31-7 over 3 years (very respectable)

Central may have a 12-13 win season and over 3 years their record would be very comparable."-one4kids

Yup, they were very comparable over three years. One had a winless season and one playoff appearance and the other had three straight playoff appearances, at least 28 regular season wins, at least six playoff wins, at least two semi-final appearances. Very comparable.

    Thanks rocket.

Sikeston has their football program going strong and it doesn't look like its fading anytime soon. They are the dominant team in SEMO. Props to them. Bitter rival or not... :)

-- Posted by secretagentman on Wed, Oct 26, 2011, at 5:22 PM
  • I feel that the rankings are something that can hurt or help a team. A top three ranking could make a team play down in a lot of cases. A "almost top ten" type ranking could make a team play out of its mind. I hope that's the case with Sikeston going into the post season.

As far as your "competitive math" you guys aren't looking at it the right way. It is all about match-ups not scores. ANYONE that has ever played football should know that. I know this is a forum for guys and girls to have fun on, but sometimes I read some of the posts and wonder what the heck is going on. If the Rams beat the Bears and the Bears beat the Panthers, then technically the Rams should beat the Panthers right? Wrong. It is all about game prep, match-ups, and execution.

    -- Posted by BullDawg9 on Thu, Oct 27, 2011, at 3:38 PM
  • I agree with you BullDawg9....about the match up thing. One of the ways for rank "amateurs" to "discuss" things is by common oponents. It is the only thing to go by. We have no game film or the Gillette NFL Replay show to consider the matchups. LOL!
