High School Football Forum: South Eastern Missouri Region Top 25 + Kelly and Pius

Posted by Kzar on Wed, Sep 21, 2016, at 12:34 AM:

This is the South Eastern Missouri Region Top 25 + Kelly and Pius. These are the 27 Best teams in the region using maxpreps as a general guideline. Semo Sportsweb used to do

a similar top 25ish. There is a lot of opinions here most of

which are meant to be taken lightly and in good humor.

#1 Jackson 4-1

With their big home win over perennial cellar dwellar Farmington, Jackson remains the top team in all the south eastern region

of the state. This week the Indians will travel all the way across campus to face the #2 Mules at home in the Pit. (or is that at Cape? Who knows? Too far south for me to care) Rest assured there will

be a game and it should be a good one.

Prediction: #1 Jackson (MO) 40, [2016] #2 Poplar Bluff (MO) 31

#2 Poplar Bluff 5-0

The Poplar Bluff Mules football edged the visiting Central Tigers, 36-34 in Friday's league bout.

In their next game, the Mules face the Jackson Indians.

in a SE Missouri - North bout, on Friday, September 23. Poplar Bluff will attempt to

advance on its 5-0 season record. The Indians enter the bout with a 4-1 record

after their 55-7 league win over Farmington.

Prediction: #1 Jackson (MO) 40, [2016] #2 Poplar Bluff (MO) 31

#3 Valle Catholic (Ste. Genevieve) 5-0

The Valle war machine rolls into and over the Jefferson Bluejays this week. Valle which has won 1194 games in a row dating back to the stone age, comes in hot off a monday evening dismantling of the Grandview whateverthehecks. Valle decided to play monday instead of sunday because it was

their JV game anyway and hell, lets kill two birds with one stone. right? Valle will face Class 2 #1 Lamar next week. But this week?

Prediction: [2016] #3 Valle Catholic (Ste. Genevieve, MO) 48, [2016] #17 Jefferson (Festus, MO) 17

#4 Central (Park Hills) 5-0

Park Hills scored early and often amassing an amazing 89 points in the first half against sometimes rival Ste. Genevieve...

Ok. So thats not at all correct. Central, which came into this game ranked 8th in class 3, couldnt

even muster a single touchdown in the first half vs the dragons. Pretty sick offense, but hey everyone

can have a bad day, right? According to the stats on maxpreps, SG was held to 151 yards. And the Rebels

forced 3 turnovers. But 8 points? Are you kidding me? This week PHC travels into the northern most

portion of SEMO. You know the place right before everything goes flat and turns to soybeans. Perryville has beaten St Pius!!!!

Prediction: [2016] #4 Central (Park Hills, MO) 41, [2016] #20 Perryville (MO) 3

#5 Central (Cape Girardeau) 2-3

This one will get me in trouble. But who cares. Cape>Sikeston according to the computers, so they

get #5 this week. Its really too close to call the next 3 or 4 with computers to be honest. The Tigers

Play University City Time Bandits this week. U-City comes into the game with zero wins, having only scored 31 pointson the season.

[2016] #5 Central (Cape Girardeau, MO) 8, [2016] University City (St. Louis, MO) 52

...ouch

...not really, the other way around Tigers win this one going away.

#6 Malden 5-0

The controversial Green Wavers roll into Hayti and will probably put up 130 points. Coach Joel Wyatt said in an interview over brunch, "If we dont score over 100 points this week, Im gonna throw up."

I wasnt supposed to quote him, because he only said that to me in a dream. Which is pretty weird in

itself. I really like Malden this year. They have only given up 46 points to this point which is

a great feat, considering the murderers row they have played. (much love Cville) They get a good one

this week with Hayti though. Too close to call. Good luck Wave.

[2016] #6 Malden (MO) 31, [2016] Hayti (MO) 30

#7 Sikeston 4-1

"Dogs should be 5th!!!" I know right? I just report it. Sikeston travels 12 hours north to play a team that probably should still be in the Mississippi Area Red division. Farmington could have been 4-0 going into the Jackson game, but then not so much. They are better than their record, though. With me knowing absolutely dickall about the dogs, i will let CalPreps predict this one And just shut up.

Prediction: [2016] #7 Sikeston (MO) 28, [2016] #8 Farmington (MO) 21

#8 Farmington 2-3

[See above, not typing it again]

#9 Caruthersville 3-2

Caruthersville gets Dexter at home this week. Theres not a lot to say because nobody seems to post about Cville anymore. They are a legit top 10 semo team though, and the pssible rematch with the Green Tidal Pools could be a great one. But this week, sorry Dexter.

Prediction [2016] #9 Caruthersville (MO) 44, [2016] #19 Dexter (MO) 12

#10 Ste. Genevieve 2-3

Rounding out the South Eastern Missouri Region top 10 is the love of my life, The SG Dragons. Many of the SG fans went home sad saturday night, but they went home feeling better about themselves than when they left Ste Gen county. Many fans attributed the feeling to getting to see first hand how the dregs of society live in the hills. One fan in particular asked me at halftime, "How many tattoo shops and payday loan stores I thought we needed?" I said 12, as i have inside knowledge that we are building at least two more. The dragons got on the board first, but then the offense went to sleep and Coach Weik was seen looking in the stands for Bobby Weiler. As inept as PHC was on offense the SG offense was only slightly more so. D looks good man, real good. Im saying there isnt another team in district one that will score many points on them. Look out for a possible rematch. This may be the year that SG gets that second game. You remember the one. The one that actually matters. This week they have #11 Potosi. I dont think it will be close but CalPreps thinks it will.

Prediction: [2016] #10 Ste. Genevieve (MO) 17, [2016] #11 Potosi (MO) 16

#11 Potosi 3-2

I like Potosi. I like Coach Casey. I have nothing funny to say about them. Except that Potosi fans make Park Hills fans look like saints. discuss. that is all.

#12 North County (Bonne Terre) 3-2

#13 Festus 3-2

#14 Scott City 5-0

#15 Kennett 2-3

#16 East Prairie 2-3

#17 St. Vincent (Perryville) 3-2

#18 Jefferson (Festus) 4-1

#19 Dexter 1-3

#20 Fredericktown 2-3

#21 Perryville 1-4

#22 Charleston 1-4

#23 New Madrid County Central (New Madrid) 0-4

#24 Herculaneum 1-4

#25 Crystal City 2-3

#26 St. Pius (festus)

#27 Kelly (Benton) 0-5

Also it should be noted that Valle may not have won 1194 straight games. I dont have the stats to back that up.

  • One more thing.

Valle could not beat Jackson or Bluff. Jackson and Bluff are far and away the best teams in the area.

  • Kzar, it's something like 50+ straight wins for Valle...

  • Am I missing something? How is portageville and Hayti not calculated in there anywhere?

  • No Hillsboro and Desoto?

    -- Posted by Boogin77 on Wed, Sep 21, 2016, at 9:56 AM
  • This is an excellent logical top 25

    -- Posted by cirithungol17 on Wed, Sep 21, 2016, at 10:52 AM
  • Except that Festus would beat Potosi...

Jefferson would beat Scott City and everyone behind Scott City. Yes I know they lost to East Prairie, but if you play that game 10 times, Jefferson wins it 8 or 9 times.

Plus if you're going to add Festus, North County, and Potosi, then you need to add Hillsboro and Desoto. Basically the schools the old semosports site use to cover in their preview.

  • I guess Hayti not part of the southeastern region

-- Posted by SouthEspn on Wed, Sep 21, 2016, at 11:39 AM
  • Boogin77, I'll take your little no more posting bet on St Vincent over Jefferson, if you're willing to back that Jefferson beats everyone behind Scott City statement up.

-- Posted by Bill Shakespeare on Wed, Sep 21, 2016, at 12:00 PM
  • That wasn't the bet. You don't just get to change the terms.

Ask me again week 9 when I know the injury situation. As of today, they'd beat St. Vincent pretty badly. They beat them by 40 last year with largely the same kids.

    -- Posted by Boogin77 on Wed, Sep 21, 2016, at 12:24 PM
  • I know that wasnt the bet, but the whole concept behind the bet was to back up what you're saying. which If you're setting the line at 40 points in your favor what injuries are you afraid of? A bus crash seems to be the only thing that could possibly stop this in your mind. But to be honest I doubted you'd actually put your money where your mouth is anyway.

  • Yeah and my bet was in the here and now, you're asking me to make a bet a month in advance.

You don't post enough to make it worth my time anyway.

    -- Posted by Boogin77 on Wed, Sep 21, 2016, at 12:44 PM
  • That's weird, I feel I have to call you out regularly. Guess I have a month to step it up

-- Posted by Bill Shakespeare on Wed, Sep 21, 2016, at 12:50 PM
  • Get after it.

  • I'll get them all this week...maybe

  • Kzar, thank you for a refreshing post. Was glad to see you correct yourself also. I follow a team who hasn't been beat that's not on your list. I cheer for all who play, regardless of whom they play for. It's always nice to meet people from different areas at the games who just love football. I'm saying it's a 27 team tie for first.
