High School Basketball Forum: The new head basketball coach @ Hayti is from Clarkton

Posted by metro-dude on Fri, Apr 11, 2014, at 9:18 PM:

The head basketball coach @ Clarkton has resigned and will be the new boys coach @ Hayti. It is my understanding the new coach @ Hayti will continue to live in the Clarkton area and make the daily drive to Hayti.

Hayti has athletes but will be in class 3 for the next two years. NMCC and Charleston will be favored to win class 3 districts 1 and 2 in 2015. Can the Hayti Indians challenge teams like Charleston and NMCC?

Class 3 teams favored to win a state championships are St. Louis Madison Prep, a Catholic school out of Columbia and the defending class 3 champs!

  • Wow. I wonder who Clarkton will get?

  • Being a Clarkton fan, I'm hoping Mr. David Heeb goes for it. He's the current high school principal at Clarkton. His little brother Toby has also helped on the jv and lower levels. And lest we forget, Mr. Delane Beckwith is the superintendent at Clarkton. Or it could be someone completely new.

  • Clarkton should be one of the hottest jobs on the market with the new district classifications. The time to win could be now at Clarkton.

  • Heeb is the coach already.

  • Can anyone else confirm? Major move in Clarkton if true. Landing a coach like Heeb is a once in a century opportunity for most Class 1 schools. Especially if you live south of Highway 60. To my knowledge North Pemiscot is the only champ south of the big road that still exists in the last 100 years with the exception of Senath-Hornersville, Portageville and NMCC, which are always in a larger class. Along with Richland. That also landed a legendary coach for a couple years more than a decade ago.

Without looking not sure if Malden took first or second in the 1980s on a final historical note.

  • South Iron might stand as a legitimate contender for Advance or Clarkton for the next two years. One never forgets the work they have done at South Iron the last 25 years.

  • Bottom line with the departure of Scott County Central Class 1 is wide open for at least two years and there has never been a more exciting time for Class 1 basketball athletes to work hard.

  • Hayti and Malden "both" won state championships during the 80s.

  • Yes. Hayti in 1983 with Alfred Jones, Freddie Woods and Ruff brothers. Malden in 1985 with 'twin towers' Isom and top 10 player I have seen in SEMO, Ray Pugh.

  • Hayti could have a great program!

  • Should Hayti improve their schedule. Playing teams like Risco, North Pemiscot, Cooter, Holcomb and Campbell will not prepare the Indians for teams like Charleston and NMCC.

Other teams the Hayti Indians play are:

    1. Bernie

    2. Twin Rivers

    3. East Prarie

    4. South Pemiscot

    5. Portageville

    6. Senath-Hornersville

    7. Caruthersville

Which team mentioned in this post will help prepare the Hayti Indians for the class 3 district 1 with Charleston as the @ 1 seed?

  • *

Charleston actually got moved to District 2 for this upcoming season.

  • Your right BuckMajor, NMCC will be the # 1 seed in class 3 district 1 with the winner playing Charleston in the sectionals.

Playing teams like NMCC and Charleston is a whole different thing then playing teams mentioned in the above post.

A quick fix would be playing Notre Dame, Charleston and another top team to have any kind of chance to win district 1.

Talent can be rewarded by playing teams with talent.

  • They have to play Campbell and Holcomb. They are in their conference,

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Apr 14, 2014, at 11:41 AM
  • Metro-Dude, many of the teams you mentioned are traditionally very strong programs here in Semo, such as Bernie, Caruthersville, Portageville, Risco, and South Pemiscot. Portageville in particular has won a number of state championships. South Pem beat Hayti two out of three times last season. So Hayti is not hurting themselves by playing any of those schools.

  • It wouldn't matter who they play NMCC and Charleston will always rule Class 3 in Semo.

  • 1. Portageville

    Class 2 champs-2009, 1994, 1993, 1992 and 1991

    Third place---1999

    2. Hayti

    Class 2 champs--1983

    Third place--=2012

    3. Bernie

Class 2--second--2011 and one other 2nd place finish

    4. North Pemiscot--Class 2 champs---1981

None of the above teams have advanced in class 3. Class 3 appears to belong to Charleston or NMCC as posted by BIGELW.

  • Depends on the leadership. With the right coach and a change in culture Hayti could be as tough as anybody. Same with Caruthersville. If David Heeb was still at C'ville they'd have probably won that district this year.

-- Posted by jwhitlock on Mon, Apr 14, 2014, at 1:30 PM
  • Hayti should probably keep their current schedule and hope they drop to Class 2 again in two years.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Apr 14, 2014, at 1:35 PM
  • Hayti has the potential to play with any team.

    -- Posted by Winner11 on Wed, Apr 16, 2014, at 8:50 AM
  • Portageville also took 4th in 1998.

    Bernie took 2nd in 2010

    Hayti took 3rd in 2012
