What games out of these do you see having the best potential of being great games and not blowouts? I have no idea of the other teams but the MO teams should do pretty good in this shootout.

I think it will depend on who is having a deep playoff run in football. All 4 out of state teams were still playing today. Their all good football teams. Last I checked it looked like two could lose and two could win. But I haven't checked the scores today.

-- Posted by BuckMajor on Sat, Nov 17, 2012, at 7:47 PM
  • North Little Rock had a bye today. West Memphis and Pine bluff both won their football games today. Could get some JV teams for the Riverbend.

Does the first game actually start at 2 on Friday or is that just the first game for a semo team

Yes the first game starts at 2 sugarbear. All of the games will feature a semo team, and the ones listed are all the games there will be.

  • Well, Pine Bluff, North Little Rock, and Covington will all be playing football tonight, Friday 23rd, in their State Playoffs. I wish them good luck, but I sure do wish they had their Varsity basketball teams at full strength for the Riverbend.

Heard Covington missed a ton of layups in the game. Guess that happens when you're stuck running at Charleston's pace without three starters.

-- Posted by sideline starter on Fri, Nov 23, 2012, at 3:28 PM
  • Yep they missed alot of lay-ups and I was wondering how many ppl was missing but according to this Charleston person sitting near me Covington doesn't play football. I didn't correct her.

I watched Jimerson tonight and he was very impressive! I think he finished the night with 29 points and 5 assist.

Controlled the tempo and it looks like as long as Jimerson is on his game NMCC follows. That's pretty solid with him only being a sophomore. He is a special player!

If anyone could confirm the points I would appreciate it... I think I'm close on the stats, but was talking a lot and could have imagined one or even missed one... LOL

About a 7 man rotation Preach. Banks looks great, Jaylen Porter looks good as well. Just no match for 6'5 Thomas Alexander and the wildcats.

Parham vs. NLR guard Watkins will be a great matchup. Parham is a great guard, but so is this kid. Quick, quick, quick! Already burnt Banks a couple times. I'm not sure who on Charleston will be able to stop Alexander. I think they will have to use lots of outside shooting. As I'm typing NLR puts in another monster dunk!

  • No excuses, they have some guys hurt from football, including one of their best offensive guys. That being said , they didn't look very good today. They might be a little overrated . It is hard to tell because west memphis might be a very good team, they looked great today anyway. I would like to see them play charleston , I think they could give ctown a good game, not saying they could beat them.

-- Posted by ktown 5150 on Fri, Nov 23, 2012, at 9:45 PM
  • For those of you who saw both games, what predictions do you have for the Charleston-NLR game tomorrow night? NLR sounds like a pretty decent team from just reading the above posts...

-- Posted by gerardo on Fri, Nov 23, 2012, at 10:18 PM
  • *

Yeah Beef I see all 4 games tomorrow being really good ones!

Gerardo, boy that's a tough one! Opposed to what some others have said, I did not see enough from one charleston game to say they look like state champs. They were pretty much playing Covington subs, although they did play quite well. NLR, in my opinion, was the best team there today. I would say Charleston was the 2nd best. So it should be a great game between the best two. NLR played the same style ball as Charleston, just taller. Alexander will be tough for them to stop, he got loads of rebounds, tip ins, and put backs. Their point guard is also very quick, and can rack up the assists. All 4 of their dunks were by 4 different people, and they ran 11 people deep. Foster and Webster will really have to compete with NLR's big boys to have a chance. They will have to shoot well outside as well. Alexander can also stroke the 3 ball. It will be a really good game. I'll go NLR 84 Charleston 76 as my prediction. Get your necks ready to be looking a both ends of the court, itll be a fast game.

I will have to say that the referees were a little to biased that game with NLR. Tje refs were non factors the first 2 games of the day as it should be. NLR goes up 6 heading into the 4th they should have called the fouls a little better for NLR cause C-town was getting away with alot worse than what they were getting called in their favor. I know its home state advantage but they really changed momentum in this game. I think Hull may be the best player Charleston has on their team as far as shooting and defense goes.

-- Posted by ballerd on Sat, Nov 24, 2012, at 9:38 PM
  • Charleston has a solid team this year. They are deeper than some people give them credit. NLR was a very good team. The tech call was a bit much but the game was intense all the way. So for all the haters, please give these young players some credit for playing good ball. That's for all the southeast teams. Stop hating on these kids!!

    -- Posted by pe-co85 on Sat, Nov 24, 2012, at 10:03 PM
  • I thought the charleston nlr game was pretty evenly contested officiating aside. It was back and forth from the opening tip and could have gone either way in the end. Nlr is a top notch team and for charleston to just compete, much less win, spells big trouble for the majority of teams they will face the rest of the season.

  • Second game of the season & the Charleston Bluejay haters are already coming out the closet! Wow!!

-- Posted by Basketballbj on Sat, Nov 24, 2012, at 10:27 PM
  • Here is what we learned at the riverbend this year. Charleston is still charleston. They are the team to beat in that district no surprise there. NMCC looked very good and they never look good early. They could sneak up on teams like cville in that district. Kennett will compete in class 4. When they get primer back and the other football kid that is hurt they will have a deep lineup that is very athletic. They are a little rough right now but they will be in the mix in that district. SCC is down. There is no other way to say it. They will get better and class 1 is still going to be winnable for th but they are down. I don't see them winning 20 games this year and it also would not surprise me if they don't make it to state. That's not a knock on the braves just saying tey have lost so many good players over the last 2-3 years plus a coaching change and even mighty SCC has to feel that eventually.

Second game of the season & the Charleston Bluejay haters are already coming out the closet! Wow!!

Where was anyone hating on C-town at? Nobody said anything about C-town at all, I was talking about the officiating never said one word about the Jays. They have a good team and a great coach, Parham looked off tonight but he was playing against someone equally as good if not better. Hull was a beast I like him alot as a player he takes good shots and does not force anything. SCC played alot of ME ball tonight and did not look for that extra pass on the dribble penetration. That team is young and loaded with juniors but they still have the athletes to compete at class 1 level.

-- Posted by wheresthebeef on Sat, Nov 24, 2012, at 11:36 PM
  • Wheresthebeef, You must be 100% guilty because not one time did someone say you was hating!!! You must be one of them "CHARLESTON BLUEJAY HATERS"! IJS....

-- Posted by Basketballbj on Sun, Nov 25, 2012, at 1:53 AM
  • As an unbiased fan with zero feelings towards either team in the Charleston vs North Little Rock game, I did feel the officials did lean to one side more than the other. I also think that Mike Hull deserves all the praises he gets because he is a very good guard and was Charleston's best player tonight. I sat next to several Charleston fans and we discussed what our thoughts were during the game and I really enjoyed the conversation and their insight. Now, they actually agreed that the officials were being "homers" to the out of state team, which happens to Missouri schools when we leave the state so why shouldnt they get it done here. We also both agreed that Charleston is a tough team and very skilled with a great coach. So, that point is not being a "hater", but rather an intellectual point of view brought on by actually watching the game without blinders on.

  • #22 from Charleston is really good I thought. Parham looked like he had a little trouble with the other # 20 but it was a show to watch. I'm glad I went back to see it.

-- Posted by TFA on Sun, Nov 25, 2012, at 9:33 AM

I agree with Beef and smo0723. The officiating leaned towards Charleston, pretty heavy I must add. Parham went against someone who exploited his weaknesses. I think Tucker last year took most of that pressure off Parham with most guys attacking Tucker. This year, Parham is the guy teams are going after and it's really affected his game, at least the game I saw. Michael Hull is the stud on that team. He is automatic at the line plus he takes smart shots, which he hits 80% of them. Also, #43 for Charleston is a ball hawk hitting the boards. Very active underneath the basket. I think Charleston is beatable this year. I still think they are the favorite in Class 3 District 1 but the upper tier Class 3 teams will give them fits.

I think Michell is probably the best player in Semo as far as skill set goes. That guy is a fairly tall guy and he can handle the ball like a guard. He can create shots that most can't.I'd like to see him get after it on defense a little more but that's the only flaw in his game I saw. As far as Kennett is concerned, I think they will struggle the nights Mitchell is off. Drake didn't seem as good as he was last year, maybe it was just an off game. I think being in Class 4 District 1 will be an eye opener for them.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sun, Nov 25, 2012, at 10:12 AM
  • Really Mitchell? I wasn't impressed the first day with him didn't see the 2nd day so he must of done better that day. The guy that really impressed me was Jimerson.

-- Posted by TFA on Sun, Nov 25, 2012, at 10:19 AM
  • *

Who I've seen so far, Mitchell is the best one. Hull is the best shooter by far. But overall, who I have seen so far, Mitchell is the best player. I think he had 30 points last night. I didn't stay for the NMCC game so I didn't get to see Jimerson. I know last year, I was impressed with Jimerson. I'm sure he got a lot better over the summer.

-- Posted by Cheesehead. on Sun, Nov 25, 2012, at 10:24 AM
  • Hull better than Parham? Stick to talking about football Cheese. Parham is the best basketball player in Southeast Missouri PERIOD. I'm not a Charleston fan but the guy does everything you need a kid to do if you want to win. Great defender great ball handler keeps his teammates involved and scores when he has to. Hull is also a very good player. There is a reason Tucker and Hull and Jerry Carter and every other Blue Jay has looked good shooting it from the wing over the last 3-4 years because Parham makes average players look good and good players look great. I will agree with you that Mitchell might have the most talent of any kid in the area this year. He's about 6'4 and can do it all when he turns it on. As a Kennett fan I'd like to see him turn it on and leave it on all the time. I was also really impressed with Jimmerson. He is a great talent and only a sophomore. By the end of the season Charleston might be better than they were last year and that is scary. They actually have more talent and they're deeper than a year ago. Kennett has some work to do if they're going to compete in Class 4 but once they get healthy I think they have a shot to hang with Sikeston.

-- Posted by bootheelhooper on Sun, Nov 25, 2012, at 11:31 AM
  • *

That's okay, I'll stick to basketball. I know just as much about round ball. I'm not doubting Parham is the best player overall on Charleston but he definitely didnt show it last night. That guard from NLR made him look average at best. To say Parham is the best in Semo is stretching it. Id take Mitchell any day over him. Charleston is still one of the best Class 3 teams but no way they are better than last year. I think Sikeston and Charleston will have a very interesting game this year.

The point is don't get the bighead but keep it together at all times because the other teans will be coming for you! Ryan and Michael as leaders keep the team together and as one you can bring home another championship title!!! Gotta love those Blue Jays

Way to tough this one out jays..The riverbend was great this year as always..I really liked Thatch and Jimmerson(NMCC)..Also the Mitchell kid is a stud He's the best post player i've seen so far..I would love to watch Kennett play Sikeston for the district title this year..Scc is unpredictable right now,but I hope they can make another title run..I never rule those guys out in class1..

  • Mitchell is a guard, not a post man.

  • Parham was up against the best point man he will see all season and one who will be playing for a very good mid-major d1 school next year. Naturally he is going to cause some problems for him. With that being said, ryan still had a good game and won't come close to facing that level of opponent in southeast mo or class 3 for that matter. And by the way, hull scores half the points without him at the point last night. As a team Charleston is bigger, deeper, and quite possibly better than last years championship group. Look out.....

  • gerardo I agree with you 100% on Charleston Bluejays. That probably will be the best team they play until state. And Michael can help control game when Ryan need helps.
