  • Not trying to stir anything up at all but Coach Harmon at Malden told us this morning that it was a junior varsity game for them against Risco today. Wasn't sure if that was still the case.

-- Posted by GreatFun on Wed, Apr 10, 2013, at 10:54 AM
  • Risco doesn't have jv. Malden started I think they said five varsity and 4 jv players. Miller pitched for Malden, Earnheart for Risco. Risco was up in the sixth 9-2 so Blankenship put in all risco's subs. Earnheart gave out and walked I think 5-6 batters and finally Blankenship took him out and put in Bixler . Malden tied it up 9-9. Risco came back and won it with all their subs playing! Risco won with McCord and Pavy on the bench so you can call it what you want. Neither team has enough players for a full jv team I know Risco only has 14 kids total!

-- Posted by proud pa pa on Wed, Apr 10, 2013, at 2:39 PM
  • Great Fun,

C'water is 9-0 and getting better each game. Their bats are really coming alive and pitching and defense have been really good. Yeah, seems like they would be ranked, but what do rankings mean really? All that matters is how you are playing come districts.

  • both pitchers dealing in this Chaffee Holcomb game. I think each team has 3 hits.. a lot of errors for both sides. difference is a mental error by a Chaffee outfielder not throwing the ball home on a shallow fly allowing a guy to score from third, and a 2 run home run by holcombs 3 hitter. 3-2 bottom 7

-- Posted by Thot McGee on Fri, Apr 12, 2013, at 12:20 PM
  • Sportsnerd, you're definitely right about the pitchers. Don't know the name of the Chaffee kid but his only real mistake was the home run to Glover. He looked like a great pitcher who threw an excellent game for Chaffee. Clark was dialed in for Holcomb as well. I believe he ended up with 11 or 12 strikeouts on 3 hits. As earlier mentioned though, Holcomb really struggles defensively. You won't beat many teams the caliber of Chaffee giving up 4 unearned runs.

-- Posted by bleacherking on Fri, Apr 12, 2013, at 12:49 PM

  • I couldn't make it out to Waynesville this weekend but from what I gathered from our good lookin' radio announcer they are a 5A team with 9 seniors that went 15-11 last year I think. I have not seen their schedule or even seen them play this year for that matter so take that for what it's worth.

As far as who all is playing out at Waynesville this weekend, I think the four teams are Oran, Waynesville, Lutheran (St. Peters), and Russellville.

  • Bernie beats New Madrid County Central 2-1 in 9 innings in a battle. Both starting pitchers were brilliant. McDaniel struck out 19 while Bernie's Devin Trammell was in double figures. The game was 0-0 after 8 when Bernie finally broke through for two runs. In the bottom of the 9th, NMCC scored one and had runners at 1st and 3rd with one out and their three and four hitters up. Bernie got a pop up and a ground out. Great game.

  • Malden beat Chaffee to win the Malden tournament 3-0. Not trying to take anything away from the kids, but I think it's pretty sorry the way Malden sets themselves up in this tournament every single year with a soft pool that way they can save there ace for the finals. Where as everybody else has to throw their ace to get there.

-- Posted by bleacherking on Sat, Apr 13, 2013, at 8:27 PM
  • Holcomb had the weakest team in the tournament, by far, in their pool in Advance(no disrespect to Advance) so I don't understand what you're crying about? Malden could have gave you guys Greenville and played Advance and Doniphan on Friday.

Holcomb plays Risco Monday and Cooter Wednesday. Great coaching decision to save the top pitchers for those games in my opinion.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Sun, Apr 14, 2013, at 8:15 PM
  • Ward, Clark threw Friday, he'll be on 4 days rest Wednesday., what don't you get? and if they threw their 2 or 3 Saturday he'd be on 3 days rest for relief. One has to wonder what you're thinking.

-- Posted by Thot McGee on Sun, Apr 14, 2013, at 9:24 PM
  • He's thinking about volleyball Nerd.

-- Posted by gostlrams on Sun, Apr 14, 2013, at 9:34 PM
  • sportsnerd

What you don't get is the difference/importance of winning conference games vs. non-conference games.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 4:22 PM
  • If you want your ace pitcher(s) fresh for Monday it's probably not a good idea to throw them Saturday.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 4:28 PM
  • Dusty, Their ace threw Friday. he's not available Monday. BUT!! he is Wednesday.. ta dah.. So your ace throws Chaffee and Cooter.. that leaves your number 2 and 3 pitcher for a game Saturday and a game Monday.. now.. where's the difficulty in understanding this.. throw your number 3 Saturday and your 2 Monday or vice versa.. Genius I tell ya, pure Genius.

-- Posted by Thot McGee on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 5:05 PM
  • Maybe Holcomb's coach had a reason he did what he did? The games at Malden are important but I'm sure Casper was looking at the district seeding implications of Monday and Wednesdays games, which are much more important to him, I'm sure. The 1 seed in that district is pretty important. We have a lot of genius on this board, don't we?

-- Posted by jwhitlock on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 6:40 PM
  • Holcomb has four conference games this week: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Great coaching decision to save the pitching for the conference games. They do this in college all the time sportsnerd.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 6:45 PM
  • I'm still baffled at what you guys are saying.. Cameron Clark thre against Chaffee on Friday so he will pitch Wednesday.. That leaves Houart and Glover for Monday.. did both of them throw today? I doubt it.. So one could have thrown Saturday and one today.. an what district game are you talkin about? they've beat every team in there district this spring except Hayti which they'll beat.. so that should have no implications.

-- Posted by Thot McGee on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 6:48 PM
  • well their coach told me they played Monday and Wednesday and that was it. That is why I was baffled.

-- Posted by Thot McGee on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 6:49 PM
  • I'm mistaken on the district. My bad. You get to correct me, which makes you feel good. On a day like today that bears such tragedy, I can feel good about you feeling good.

As far as the other stuff, I don't even care. Which speaks to my point. However, Risco and Holcomb are still conference games so maybe that had some bearing on his decision. I'm not trying to say he made the right or wrong decision. What I'm saying is STOP BASHING A FREAKING COACH FOR MAKING A DECISION UNTIL YOU'VE WALKED IN HIS SHOES! haha

-- Posted by jwhitlock on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 6:52 PM
  • sportsnerd

One might look even deeper into the decision and say Holcomb did what they did because they didn't want Chaffee to see their pitchers before a potential state quarterfinal game if both teams make it that far.

-- Posted by Dustin Ward on Mon, Apr 15, 2013, at 6:59 PM
