High School Baseball Forum: Early thoughts on pitch count rules?

Posted by thatDude on Thu, Apr 6, 2017, at 11:10 AM:

A couple weeks in and I will have to say I've seen some effects of the pitch count rules already affect the outcome of some games mainly due to the pulling of pitchers early and some late game comebacks. Coaches are starting to adjust and get used to it - I also hear a lot of games not being made up unless they have to. Should make for a interesting conference/district tournament scenarios. Thoughts and observations?

  • Ruining the game. Let the coaches coach.

  • I agree to let coaches coach but some people take advantage of these kids so that is why a rule like this had to come about.

  • That's not the job of MSHSAA. That's the job of the school board and AD of that school and the parents. There's a LOT more good coaches than bad ones.

  • I personally think the kids should just pitch. What happens when a team is at state and has back to back games and can't start their ace on the second game? The kid will want to pitch, so let him.
