  • Thanks SportsMediaInformant!

  • Wow, the folks from the "participation trophy" crowd will love this! Six pitchers, seven infielders, four catchers, plus two DH/utility layers? Hm.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Thu, May 5, 2016, at 11:34 AM
  • I'd assume it is kinda like 2nd team?

    -- Posted by bluffguy697 on Thu, May 5, 2016, at 12:05 PM
  • Then it should be specified as such.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Thu, May 5, 2016, at 6:26 PM
  • We really should not care...this has no place in team high school sports.

If they want to do this at the ML level...so be it. But it goes against everything we say high school sports is supposed to be about.

Something to talk about. Good for the fans. But high school sports is not for profit and fans.

  • BTIndians, what are you talking about.

    -- Posted by slammer108 on Thu, May 5, 2016, at 7:08 PM
  • slammer108, I was wondering the same thing!

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Thu, May 5, 2016, at 7:29 PM
  • There is no 2nd team in baseball. It's 1st team then honorable mention.

-- Posted by crackerjack on Thu, May 5, 2016, at 7:58 PM
  • Maybe not for this conference, but I've seen 2nd teams listed over the years in other conferences.

    -- Posted by semo7178 on Thu, May 5, 2016, at 8:28 PM
  • Whomever put that list out there should put all the info on it. It might be correct for all the kids that made all conference but it's not correct for the 1st team all conference

Baseball fan it is correct. There is no "first team". It is either All Conference or honorable mention. 8 teams in Conference. Each team represented.

-- Posted by SportsMediaInformant on Fri, May 6, 2016, at 7:44 PM
  • All Conference or All Star teams are completely unnecessary. That is what I am saying. We talk about it, creates fan interest, but any all conference or all state teams are in contradiction to what high school sports is supposed to be all a bout.

-- Posted by BTIndians on Sat, May 7, 2016, at 9:38 PM
  • So what is it supposed to be about

    -- Posted by $how2me on Sat, May 7, 2016, at 10:59 PM
  • Teamwork, sportsmanship, lifelong memories of your team and teammates! Team before self!

Life lessons! I could go on but I'm satisfied with those examples!

-- Posted by IndianPride on Sat, May 7, 2016, at 11:35 PM
  • Thanks IndianPride. It certainly is not about making an all conf or all state team.

-- Posted by BTIndians on Sun, May 8, 2016, at 9:42 PM
  • BT, really? Obviously both people who question every process and cry at the fact the process didn't reward them.

-- Posted by Coachken on Mon, May 9, 2016, at 7:12 AM
  • Coachken, I am pretty neutral on the all conf etc...

To me it is unimportant and contradicts what we are supposed to be teaching in high school team sports.

With that said, sports is full of hypocrisy at all levels and I have grown to still enjoy sports and accept that is the way it is.

High school sports, though certainly not pure, is still better than all levels above in terms of playing for the name on the front of the jersey and the love of the game and competition.

  • It's been a long time since I was a player, but I don't think any individual plays a team sport solely to be All Conference, All District, or All State. To me it's like a bonus award for those who are recognized for extra effort, skill, sportsmanship, and TEAMWORK. I guess since track is a team sport too there should be no individual medals.

    -- Posted by mule67 on Mon, Jun 19, 2017, at 7:12 PM
  • Good grief. Track is NOT a team sport nor is wrestling, tennis, swimming or golf. Can a TEAM win state? Sure. BUT they give INDIVIDUAL state championship medals which makes it an individual sport with a CHANCE to win a state title if enough INDIVIDUALS make it to the state level of competition.
