Other College Sports Discussion: NCAA Basketball Tournament Expansion?

Posted by drawmules on Fri, Feb 5, 2010, at 4:18 PM:

Multiple sources are reporting NCAA officials have met to discuss expanding the NCAA tournament.

Some feel the tournament should be expanded to accommodate the growing number of Division I teams. Others argue expanding the tournament would have a negative impact on regular season games and conference tournaments.

Should the NCAA tournament be expanded? Would expanding the tournament benefit Southeast Missouri State University?

Here is a link to an article that discusses the issue farther: http://www.recordcourier.com/article/20100204/SPORTS/100209851/1050/RSS

  • Why would the NCAA fail to fix the horrible football playoff system and mess with the greatest tournament on earth. Horrible idea to expand, we might as well let everyone in and after they lose give out a pretty participation ribbon so everyone feels like a winner.

    Everyone likes a winner LOL.

In reality, the only logical reason to expand the tournament is to make more money. I believe the main reason the football system has not been altered is because the NCAA collects more revenue with the current system. Money almost always impacts scheduling decisions at the college and professional level.
