Brian Rosener is the keeper of the Semoball Cup which is presented to the school with the most successful season. It is based on a formula that takes into account the combined winning percentage of all sports teams plus bonus points for advancement in postseason play for both teams and individuals. The bonus points are divided by the number of teams a school fields. Rosener has been the sports editor for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since December 2001. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended Lindbergh High School and Webster University. He is married to Jennifer, a Poplar Bluff native, has a son Jack and a dog named Satchel who stands in for his @semoballBrian photo.

Tyler's best not-a-dunk

Since we had a few people not impressed with Tyler Hansbrough's dunk the other night, I thought I'd show this photo of Hansbrough dunking over another 7-footer. The photo was taken during his senior year against a team from Florida at the Benton, Ky. shootout.

This photo ran on the front of sports the following Monday.

Great dunk shot, but if I remember it right the ball may have bounced out. (I wasn't there but OTB can give us a play-by-play if he checks in.)

My point is, who cares if he traveled or missed the dunk, how many times do you see a guy try to dunk on a 7-footer?

NFL PICKS UPDATE: My wife is now 6-for-6 with her NFL picks heading into today's games. She's still beating me by two meaning I'll be doing the laundry today. Jennifer watched the Packers turn the ball over twice to start the game then went into the other room to do some work. She swears that's the reason why they came back to win.

STRANGE DAYS: The front sports page of the Sunday DAR has the Mules losing to Twin Rivers (first time since 1997), the Raiders losing to State Fair (first time since 1992) and Missouri beating Texas (first time since 1999).

Brian.... I just sent a photo of the most remarkable play I've ever seen in high school basketball. It, too, involved Tyler Hansbrough as he was attempting a dunk; however, 5'7" Marcus Biles, Charleston's point guard, came down the middle of the lane to go up and register a clean block on Tyler's dunk attempt. Poplar Bluff's fans went wild following the play thinking that Tyler was fouled; however, when the picture appeared in the PB newspaper the following day, it clearly showed that Biles had recorded a clean block. A great photo that was perfectly timed by the PB journalist.

That Biles block was the most remarkable play I have ever seen in person or on TV. There was a foul called, but nobody cared. Besides blocking someone 14 inches taller than him, Biles also had to run in from near halfcourt to catch up with Hansbrough. Also Brian, the player you are refering to that Hansbrough dunked over is Jason Bennett. He's 7'3" and now plays for Kansas State. He was one of the top ranked centers in his class coming out of high school, so like you said TH's dunk on him wasn't just a gimme.

There was not a foul call on the Biles block; that is what incensed the PB crowd; the photo only proved that it was not a foul.

Crash Davis is right, Hansbrough was attempting to dunk over 7-foot-3 Jason Bennett. Tyler took off just outside the lane and clanked the ball off the back of the rim. Made for a cool photo.

I wonder what Tyler's best dunk in a high school game was? I remember a 360 he pulled off in the Showdown. It was one of eight dunks in the game.

I remember the photo birdfan is referring to. It was taken by Paul Davis from a high angle. It was a great shot.
