Brian Rosener is the keeper of the Semoball Cup which is presented to the school with the most successful season. It is based on a formula that takes into account the combined winning percentage of all sports teams plus bonus points for advancement in postseason play for both teams and individuals. The bonus points are divided by the number of teams a school fields. Rosener has been the sports editor for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since December 2001. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended Lindbergh High School and Webster University. He is married to Jennifer, a Poplar Bluff native, has a son Jack and a dog named Satchel who stands in for his @semoballBrian photo.

Story in today's DAR will focus on Poplar Bluff's change at QB. Mules coach Brian Robbins said Wednesday that senior Austin Sutton will start in place of junior Todd Bullington, who left the Jackson game Friday night with an injured ankle. Bullington's ankle is not broken, he was still on crutches at practice Tuesday, so he will return this season. When depends on how the ankle responds to treatment but this is the same kid that has been playing with a broken pinkie finger since Week 1 -- it's on his non-throwing hand and he wears a glove.

Also not starting, TE Tim Stonecipher, who may play despite a nagging knee injury, and RB-LB Jarred Osborn, who is no longer with the team. Ben Knuckles may give Zach Ferguson a rest at running back.

Did not get a hold of Central coach Lawrence Brookins yesterday for comments, but hope to do so today and post more tomorrow.

From what I hear, fans in Poplar Bluff are already thinking ahead to next week. What does that tell you.

It tells me they didn't see the game last year. Or for the last five years for that matter. As long as I've been here (6 years) nobody in Poplar Bluff looks past Cape Central, they look forward to it. That's like saying Tiger fans are looking past the Jackson game.
That they know the Tigers are not prepared. Can you blame them?

When is Cape going to realize that a good football program starts with little league. We have a poor youth football program and it shows at the high school level. Cape, if you want to go back to the days of being able to compete we need to start supporting and improving our youth program. Look how many kids play little league football in Jackson but live in Cape. Jackson has a good program. Now, look how successful their High School football team is.

I've not talked with Jarred myself, so I don't know all the details, but as I understand it, he left the team the Thursday before the Jackson game.
