Brian Rosener is the keeper of the Semoball Cup which is presented to the school with the most successful season. It is based on a formula that takes into account the combined winning percentage of all sports teams plus bonus points for advancement in postseason play for both teams and individuals. The bonus points are divided by the number of teams a school fields. Rosener has been the sports editor for the Daily American Republic in Poplar Bluff, Mo. since December 2001. He was born and raised in St. Louis, where he attended Lindbergh High School and Webster University. He is married to Jennifer, a Poplar Bluff native, has a son Jack and a dog named Satchel who stands in for his @semoballBrian photo.

A good day fishing is better than writing a bad column

A recent comment made fun of my photo for this blog so I had this one taken earlier this week during my mid-winter fishing trip as a possible replacement.

I caught the one on the left during a trip Monday with my new father-in-law -- he got the whale on the right. We took home a mess of crappies at Lake Wappapello including these (12- and 13-inch treats) and threw back a bunch more that were just under the 9-inch limit.

My wife Jennifer picked out the hat when we first started dating three years ago.

The Mules return from their vacation Friday night in the Battle of Black River at Twin Rivers, then host Doniphan on Saturday. I'm working on a story for Friday's paper now -- the Mules lost another starter to a foot injury.

I've got plenty of Cardinals caps, I just don't want to get them dirty. Jen grew up a fan of Magnum, P.I., hence the Tigers hat.
Always best to let the father-in-law get the bigger catch. You're catching on quick...

I vote for a Mizzou hat!

O_T_B makes good point about the father-in-law's fish. Very good planning on your part. And, I can't argue with your reasoning about not sullying a Cardinals cap. That said, if you have so many, I would think you would rather wear an old Cards cap than a Detroit cap.

By the way, it's Man Law not to give into your wife's preference for sports cap UNLESS her preference is already yours. So...you get demerits for that.

First off, congratulations on your recent nuptials. Those are some nice crappie, I'm sure it was quite a feast.

RE: The Tigers/Magnum P.I. Hat; Did your bride also give you a big ole mustache and a pouch of Redman to complete the look?

Great fish! I'm sure TK is a lil jealous over those...and doesn't he wear a "D" hat too? Now that you have upgraded your photo, you might want to work on his.
