Neelyville softball holds off Lady Bears

The Neelyville Lady Tigers overcame three errors and held on to beat Greenville 6-5 on Thursday.

The Lady Tigers scored half of their runs in the third inning and added the final three in the sixth.

"We hit the ball well," Neelyville coach Bill Alexander said.

Kara Sheppard picked up a one-out hit in the sixth with the score tied at 3-3 and scored the go-ahead run on a triple by Alex Hogan.

Libby Parish added a triple of her own on the very next play to drive in Hogan and scored on a groundout by Lindsey Emerson to give the Lady Tigers a 6-3 lead.

The Lady Bears cut into the lead in the final inning but couldn't come up with the tying score.

Neelyville got on the board in the third on an RBI single by Andrea Law and a tworun single by Jessica Prosise. Parish picked up a one-out single in the inning and crossed the plate on Law's hit before Prosise stepped to the plate and drove in Law and Emerson.

On the mound, Parish gave a solid effort, striking out four and allowing four earned runs on 11 hits in seven innings.

"Libby's drop was working and the infield played well behind her," Alexander said.

BASEBALL

Campbell 10, Risco 0

Jake Tinnon allowed only two hits and struck out 11 hitters as the Camels defeated the Tigers handily.

Cote Harralston and Kyle Matthews each drove in three runs for the Camels, who took a 5-0 lead in the third inning and continued their production over the next two innings to complete the rout.

The Camels stole a total of seven bases, led by Jake Nelson's three.
