Missourian prep baseball roundup, Apr. 15-16: Jackson wins in Busch Stadium
The Jackson Indians capitalized on a rare opportunity and defeated Edwardsville 5-1 on Sunday at Busch Stadium.
JP Sauer pitched a complete game for the Indians, allowing only one run on three hits with nine strikeouts and no walks.
The Indians opened the fourth inning down 1-0. Caden Bogenpohl tripled on a 2-0 count, scoring Cooper Rhodes, who reached base on a walk. Bogenpohl scored after a ground ball by Quinton Borders led to an error. Landon Watkins drove Borders home on a single to round out the inning.
Borders struck again in the fifth inning with an RBI single. He later scored on an error by the pitcher.
Jackson (15-5) will look to secure its supremacy over Illinois with a home matchup with Marion on Monday at 4:30 p.m.
Meadow Heights 9, Oak Ridge 1
Meadow Heights broke out the bats with a big 9-1 win over Oak Ridge on Saturday.
Ransom Grindstaff got the offense going for the Panthers with a two-run single. Meadow Heights added three runs in the fourth inning with RBIs by Braeden Hays, Koby Cook, and Caidyn Byrd. Cook went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Panthers in hits.
Hays got the start and the win for Meadow Heights by throwing four shutout innings with six strikeouts.
Notre Dame 8, Perryville 1
Notre Dame put up five runs in the first inning to set the tone of its 8-1 victory over Perryville on Saturday.
Cole Lemons and Wil Morgan drove in a run on a base hit, while Jack Evans brought a run home on a sacrifice fly, and TJ Bolen scored on an error on a ball put in play by Brett Dohogne. Lemons went 2-for-3 to lead the Bulldogs in hits.
Bolen started the game for Notre Dame and allowed one hit and one run with three strikeouts over four innings.
Notre Dame 6, Oran 3
Notre Dame capped its busy Saturday with a 6-3 win over Oran.
The Bulldogs scored a run on an error in the first inning. They added four runs in the second inning thanks to RBIs by Logan Landewee, Cole Lemons, and Brycen Clark.
Reid Morgan went four innings, allowing two runs on seven hits and striking out three for Notre Dame. Hunter Bonham, Will Dodson, and Jack Evans came out of the bullpen to finish the game.
Kolten Payne took the loss for Oran after allowing four hits and seven runs over two innings.
The Eagles tallied ten hits on the day, led by Gabe Dirnberger, Carson Kern, and Payne, who each had multiple hits.
Notre Dame will take on rival Cape Central at Capaha Field on Monday.
