Missourian prep hoops roundup, Feb. 11: Meadow Heights boys rout Marquand for MVC title

Meadow Heights (14-10) took a 93-39 win against Marquand (5-13) on Saturday to finish 3-0 in the round-robin Mississippi Valley Conference tournament, winning the championship against second-place Marquand.

Meadow Heights’ Will Green scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Panthers to victory, scoring on 10 field goals. Koby Cook (17), Braeden Hays (15), Kaden Cook (11), Jayden Burr (7), Cayden Bess (5), Ransom Grindstaff (5), Mason Mayfield (4) and Aiden Mayfield (2) all pitched in to fuel the Panther rout.

Aidan Homan led Marquand with 21 points in the loss, making seven field goals and hitting six shots from the free-throw line. Brayden Homan (10), Justin Dees (6) and Michael Winder (2) all scored for Marquand.

The teams meet up for a rematch at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Marquand.

BBB: Leopold 53, Zalma 29

Leopold (7-15) ended its eight-game losing streak with a 53-29 win against Zalma (2-20) on Saturday for third place in the Mississippi Valley Conference tournament.

On a balanced-scoring night for the Wildcats, Keegan Deck led the scoring for Leopold with 14 points on five field goals. Preston Campbell (7), Brady Halter (6), Landon Wells (5), Jay Engelen (4), Austin Broshuis (4), Klete Beel (4), Josh Horrell (3), Mike Wolfe (2), Noland Beussink (2) and Will Retz (2) all contributed in the Leopold win.

Destin Chamberlain led Zalma with eight points in the loss, while Eli Ford (7), Kyan Bennett (5), Braden Green (3), Jarren Woods (3) and Gage Gilbert (3) all scored for the Bulldogs in the loss.

Leopold next plays at 7:30 p.m. on Monday at North Pemiscot (1-22), while Zalma next hosts Clarkton (10-11) at 6 p.m. on Monday.
