Ronald Coleman Jr. is training at a local boxing academy as he prepares for his fight in the Cage Fury Fighting Championships on March 31 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Coleman, a native of Omaha, Nebraska, is training at Christian Boxing Academy in Cape Girardeau.

“It’s been a godsend,” Coleman said. “Danny Rees has taken me under his wing and we’ve been training for three and a half years and it’s really been a godsend for me and the community.”

Coleman is very open about his faith in god and hopes it becomes more accepted in MMA.

“My faith allows me to take that step, but my physical ability allows me to perfect it in the cage,” Coleman said. “Faith is everything for me and this has been an amazing journey trying to intertwine the two and just bring my belief in Christ to the cage.”

So far in his career Coleman is 3-0-0 and is the 52nd-ranked heavyweight in the United States.

“I don’t really get caught up in the rankings,” Coleman said. “I just go fight by fight. I’m focused on one fight at a time.”

Coleman will face off against Greg Velasco in the Heavyweight Title Fight which will air on UFC Fight Pass, but is trying to keep his focus elsewhere to avoid putting pressure on himself before the fight.

“I’m excited for the fight and all of that but I’m really excited to see the Rocky statue,” Coleman said. “The fight will take care of itself. I’m trying to let my focus be somewhere else because at the end of the day once you get in the cage you have to fight. I don’t want to stress myself out worrying about it every single day.”

Coleman just wants to go out and perform once the fight begins on March 31.

“I believe whatever you put into your practice regiment is what you’re going to do,” Coleman said. “A lot of it is staying calm, staying patient and putting myself in the best condition possible to be ready to put on a great show.”
