Kelly’s Madison Yount makes dream come true, signs with Mineral Area College
BENTON, Mo. — Kelly’s Madison Yount made her longtime dream of playing college softball come true when she signed to continue her athletic and academic careers at Mineral Area College during a ceremony at KHS on Thursday, Nov. 17.
“I went to a camp [at Mineral Area] my sophomore year of high school and knew I wanted to play there in the back of my mind,” Yount said. “I knew that if I was offered a chance to play here there would be no second-guessing because playing softball at the next level had been a dream of mine since I was a little girl. The feeling of finally getting to write my name and agreeing to go to [Mineral Area] was one of the best feelings ever, especially since I had all of my softball sisters there and my family and friends congratulating me through the whole process.”
Yount was a four-year starter for the Lady Hawks at third base. She finished this past season with a .278 batting average with 27 hits, including three doubles and a home run, 23 runs scored, 17 RBIs and eight stolen bases, and helped led Kelly to its third straight district title. Yount also had a .917 fielding percentage and earned all-district and all-region honors.
“Mineral Area just felt like a home to me,” she said. “When I went for a tour I loved every part of it. I also have many friends that go to school there which made the yes easier.”
Yount plans on majoring in Physical Therapy.
The Mineral Area College softball team is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II, competes in Region XVI and is a member of the Missouri Community College Athletic Conference.
